Hey, Neal...
<snip> It's raining hard here in upstate NY, the creeks are rising, the
flats are
flooding and they're evacuating homes down in the valley.,snip>
Hope you're on HIGH ground!
<snip> A good day for genealogy research.<snip>
Hope you find somebody!
<snip> Some time ago I bought a set of set of cd's from the Family History
Center
containing vital records indes for England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales.
Good time to try and track down some of my mothers elusive Welsh
ancestors. After a couple of hours of searching and swapping cd's I got
fed up as I couldn't find one.
Thought I'd see if I could find our elusive ancestor Thomas in Wales.
Darn, not one Carrier listed from Wales.<snip>
Shouldn't you be looking for Thomas Morgan (Wogan)?
<snip> OK, lets try all countries and I came up with an interesting find.
There was a Thomas Carrior born May 31, 1632 in Wirksworth, Derbyshire,
England whose father was a Richard Carrior.<snip>
Wow! That's pretty close, huh?
<snip> Ok, the spelling is different, the dob is 6 years off, if this Thomas
was
the kings executioner, he would have been 17 when Charlie lost his head.
BUT this is the only Thomas anywhere near ours. In the 1600's & later,
familys used a common naming pattern for their children. The first son was
named after the paternal grandfather & the second son after the Maternal
one. Thomas & Martha seemed to have done this so Thomas's father PROBABLY
was named Richard<snip>
You're probably onto something, there...but from what I've read of Thomas,
he may have been born as early as 1622.
Some of his family claimed that he was as old as 113 at his death...
<snip> Anyhow, I think this bears further investigation and Wirksworth was
in the
middle of the English civil war with supporters for both sides from there.
time to cojitate on it.<snip>
Is Wirkworth close to Wales? Were there any UK Censuses (Censi?) taken in
the early 1600s?
Or were there just the vitals recorded?
If so, are they anywhere that we can access them?

Carrier Smith)
P.S. I talked to my Aunt Betty today & she's gonna send me the info on her
Carrier children. Her son Robert is the only Carrier left to carry on George
Levaldan Carrier's line. I'll forward the info as soon as I get it.
