This came off the Minnesota digest but it covers land patents for the western states.
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Default.asp?
Some have images of the original patent issued.
They have land records way back. Read the instructions and less is better
then more when searching names. Remember that borders on counties changed a
lot back then also.

What are you looking for on her? Birth info? Marriage info? Death info?
Try searching for her on the free online 1880 census:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/se...
If you put in LATHAM for the last name and search for girls born in MN in 1870 +/- 5
years, there are only six hits. Most of them are in one family and that family is
located in Excelsior, Hennepin, Minnesota. Two other families of LATHAM with girls
that age are in Waseca, Waseca, Minnesota and St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota .

Would towns have kept records of land back in the 1880's and early 1900's and if
so where would I look or write for them? I am talking about Sleepy Eye and Theif River
Falls,Minnesota. Thanks.A.T.
