Dr. Chas E. Banks
Dear Sir:
Your favor of the 14t inst. came duly to hand. I
have delayed my reply till I could get time to look over my mess at
a little leisure which I have done today and do not find a Hannah to
fit your code. As you suggest it would seem reasonable to suppose
that she bore some kin to the other Allens in No. Yarmouth. Me, and
assembly (?), yet the Allens are so numerous and have sprung from
so many different lines (over 50 million country) that it is very
often difficult to have a given number of the Allen name at any
definite origin. I take in Samuel l and James 2 Allen, but not
extensively. I will have the object of your quest in mind and if I
gain any clue will gladly advise you.
Yours truly,
O. P. Allen

Dear Sir:
Your favor of the 16th is at hand. In reply I
will say that I have once more gone over my abstracts of York
Deeds and Maine wills as well as extracts from the records of
Exeter, Dover, and Portsmouth & Kittery but I do not find just
the person to fit your case. I find quite a number of Hannah
Allens, but the dates are not right for your use. If you have not
done so, it might be well to go over the Maine Wills and look at
Deeds carefully. They may reveal something. I was of course
searching for another family and might not have taken down all
the Allens which the volumes contain. It is
Pg 92
possible some Hannah Allen might have come from Essex Co, Mass
as there were many of the name there quite early. I have looked
over the lot I have of them but fail to find what you want, but
possibly the list is not complete. I am sorry I cannot help you
out of the difficulty. I know how to appreciate aid in such
matters for I have had to seek it from all sources for years.
If I shall chance to come across any thing which will throw any
light upon your subject, I will cheerfully inform you.
Sincerely yours
O. P. Allen

My dear Sir -
Replying to your favor of the 29th inst. I am sorry
that from the data of the Allen family in my possession I am
unable to answer your query. There were as you doubtless know,
Allens in Newbury Mass and Hampton N.H. fully as early as in
Dedham, from any one of which your Hannah A. may have descended.
You have of course consulted the several genealogical publications
rellating to Maine. Do you know where this marriage took place?
From the enclosed card you will note that I am
prepared to make
Pg 94
genealogical researches and if you care to have me undertake
this investigation for you and will send any facts that will be
of assistance in conducting the search, I will then endeavor to
give you some idea as to its probable cost.
Regretting my inability to answr your query from
the data at hand I remain -
Very truly yours
Frank A. Hutchinson
