Hello, I'm new to your list and hope to find parents for Frona Carrier who married
Dudley B. Davis 1 Feb 1883. I discovered her name in Dudley's obituary which I am
including as well as a list of possible Carrier families listed in the index for the 1870
Nebraska Federal Census. Dudley was of Welsh extraction. Before I order and scour the 1870
census, can anyone on the list help me place her?
Gratefully,
Judy Church Jones

D.B.'s obituary was found in Florence Jones' effects:
Mr. Dudley B. Davis departed this life at his late residence west of this city
(Wymore, NE) at 11:30 o'clock on Thursday evening, June 11, 1891 aged 33 years and one
month. The funeral was held on Saturday, June 13th at the M.E. church and was under the
auspices of Tyre Lodge, No. 85, A.F.&A.M, the Rev's, Vance of the M.E. church and
Beale of the Presbyterian church of this city assisting.
He was born in Ebensburg, Cambria county, Pennsylvania May 13, 1858. At the age of 17
years he left his early home and came to Bloomington, Illinois, where he lived a short
time and then went to Red Oak, IA where he lived two years. In 1877 he moved into the
Republican Valley in this state and engaged in the lumber business and came to this city
near which he has since resided in 1881. Since his residence in and near this place he had
been extensively engaged in the lumber and stock business and was well known by a majority
of the people in the county. On February 1st, 1883 he was married to Miss Frona Carrier
who survives him and to whom many friends extend their sympathy. His death seems all the
more sad because of the accident which carried him away so suddenly. While engaged in
building stalls for his stock on Wednesday afternoon prior to his demise, the staging upon
which he was at work suddenly gave way and in falling he struck a snag that extended from
the stump of!
a tree which penetrated his body to a depth of four inches. Medical aid was summoned
immediately who did all in their power to relieve him, but the shock was too great for it
to withstand and he passed peacefully away to answer the summons from the Supreme
architect. He was an exemplary member of Tyre Lodge No. 85 A.F.&A.M. of this city and
was raised to the sublime degree of a master mason on August 12th 1882. Besides his
devoted wife, he leaves in his untimely death a widowed mother, two brothers and a
sister.
The 1885 Nebraska State Atlas lists for Gage County "D.B. Davis, Manager of National
Lumber Company. A native of Pennsylvania, he settled in this county in 1878."
