Nicole has cogitated and I have ruminated over this further.
Dear Neal and all,
I looked at the article on the site, and have a few commentaries.
First, let's address the age factor. According to the information on them,
and the date we have for our Thomas' birthday, if this were his father, he
would be approximately 10 years old. Granted, we don't have any validation
of 1626 as his birth, short of his word, which as we all know is not highly
reliable.
I suspect that the time span 1616-1643 is the period that this Thomas owned
or occupied the castle, not his life span. So this would still make the 1626
birthdate of our Thomas possible.
Secondly, the article states that this Thomas Carrier/Morgan *greeted* the
King. If this is the case, where did the whole rumor of our Thomas being an
enemy of the King/escaping the tower/ beaheading the King, etc... come
from?
Something is wrong it the time frame given on the web page. If Thomas
Carrier/Morgan welcomed the king (#2) back in 1662, but died in the battle of
Newbury Field, he had superpowers as I think these battles happened in 1643 &
1644.
Suppose Tom Sr. & Tom Jr. both supported the Kings. Sr. became a Colonel
and survived until the restoration. Jr. was #1's body guard and had to
particpate in his execution. Jr. said, "hey, I'm on the loosing side and
think I'll flee the country". He might have used his fathers alias to leave.
OR:
Jr. was on the other side, guarded & executed the king. Then when the royals
started winning, he left the country.
And the article mentions one of his daughters. Given it is detailing the
lineage of this castle, but wouldn't it be MUCH more likely that detailing
of any sons would be given, especially considering the era?
But if young Tom was in
Billerica cutting brush and had been on the other
side he probably was disenherited.
It's also strange that our Thomas & Martha named one of their daughters Jane.
After Thomas's sister????????????
I'm not saying that is isn't possible. I think it could be possible that
this man is his father, especially given the name (I mean how many
Morgan-Carrier people have we ever run across?) It is definitely food for
thought.
My thoughts exactly.
Comments? Questions?
Also, Thomas the castle owner was originally from Chester which is in the
northwest of G.B. fairly near the Welsh border. This might lead our Thomas
to be known as a Welshman.
