Most of my Carriers were just ordinary folks. They were Justices of the
Peace, postmasters, politicians, farmers, preachers, etc. My GGG Grandfather
served in the Home Guard during the War Between The States and was taken to the
top of a mountain and hung by his feet by the Union soldiers for helping guard
an important bridge (at Zollicoffer, TN). His two Confederate sons hunted down
the Union soldiers responsible and "took care of them." Or so the family
tale goes. Who knows for sure. I also had many other blood kin who fought on
the Union side, one even an important surgeon who worked on Stonewall
Jackson...and this is documented.
I have discovered that through my Carrier lines I am related to both Belle
Boyd of Civil War fame and Belle Starr of Rev. War fame!! Good grief - could
explain some of my character traits!!!
