On page 539 of the 1860 Mortality Schedule for Kentucky [this covers
Pulaski
Co], Thomas Carrier is listed on line 21. He was 85 years of age, married,
born in TN and died in May of 1860 in District 2 of Pulaski Co. His
occupation was a farmer. The cause of death was given as "age old." He
had
been ill for 10 days.
In my notes I have that Nancy was living with William and Margaret in
Pulaski
Co, in 1860. She was 78. I do not have the page or dwelling number.
However, that shouldn't be too hard to find.
I'm really interested in the source for Thomas' middle initial being
"T".
I
have never seen him listed as Thomas T. I have some deeds from Sullivan
Co,
TN (Bk 12 p. 355 for example) and it shows that Thomas Carrier signed with
a
"T" as his mark. Nancy signed with an "X" which was more common.
Another
Thomas Carrier witnessed the deed and he signed with an "X" as well.
Although illiteracy was common in those days, some illiterate people knew
enough to be able to sign with an initial.

Hi Darryn,
Thanks for posting the above. I've passed the information on to Jerry
Proudfit, the gentleman responsible for several Hatcher books. I hope to be
in Salt Lake City in a couple of weeks, and will try to make copies of the
Mortality Schedule and the 1860 census.
I'll also try to look for Thomas Carrier in VA and NC, since he supposedly
was born in VA. Do you have any suggestions which county would be most
likely?
