I just caught the tail end of this show on the history channel and from
what little I saw, it seems to be one of the better ones about the trials.
It repeats again at 2 this afternoon eastern. The H.C. website doesn't
give any more schedule info but i'm sure it will be repeated again.
Devils, witches, ghostly apparitions, spectral disturbances... Whether
real or imaginary, the end result proved ghastly--20 people tortured
and hanged in 1692. Mass hysteria? Psychological stress brought on by
the brutal Indian Wars? A devious act of personal revenge? Drug-induced
psychosis? Demonic possession? Meld with the worldview of 17th-century
New England Puritans--to whom witchcraft was real, dangerous, and a
capital crime--as our vivid, sometimes shocking, recreations reveal the
horrifying hardships of life and how superstition filled inexplicable
dark corners. Period transcripts, diaries, and letters bring to life the
infamous trials and executions.
