Bill, thanks. Thats what I was trying to say. It seems to me that sometimes
people on ancestry ARE in too big a hurry to fill their tree with some
40,000 people and create problems. Then this misinformation is pulled into
the one world tree as if it were an accurate source.

Greetings all,
Anyone who adds information to their own compilation without obtaining
source documentation is usually asking for problems - and even creating
more!
While I observe that Ancestry makes available much good information in
the form of actual copies of Census reports, for example, to blindly
accept something that is posted on Ancestry by someone who DOES NOT cite
a specific source document as evidence of their post's accuracy is simply
not good practice.
If I find information posted anywhere, I would prefer to establish a
direct correspondence with the contributor and request an exchange of
information between the two of us so that data can be compared and
considered BEFORE adding it to, or posting it anywhere else.
There has never been any elimination of the three cardinal rules for
collecting and compiling information:
1. Document
2. Document
3. Document.
Without documentation, all you have is possibilities. You should discuss
possibilities, clearly identifying them as such, whether it is within a
study group, or on a mailing list, or a public forum, but NEVER copy and
paste anywhere.
Again, I recommend making a direct contact with another submitter of
information that appears to be of interest to you and compare notes.
But, if someone chooses to copy and paste, they should, at the minimum,
state the source of their information, so anyone reviewing that posting
can check out its accuracy.
ANY and ALL information which a researcher finds that is not accompanied
by a good source reference, MUST be considered only as a clue.
An observation I have seen frequently is:
"If you don't have time to do something correctly, when will you EVER
find time to correct it?"
Too many people get in too big of a hurry to "get done". The study of
family history is called RESEARCH not REVELATION.
nuf sed!
