Lynda, Where did you find Hood cemetery? Do you know what
township? I found a Skeltontown Cemetery in Venango Twp,
Crawford Co., Pa. that lists 2 Carriers. It does not
list first names.

Message Board Post:
Well here are my thoughts on this issue so far, this is all based on Gen Web, Heritage Quest and info I have had so long I don't know where it came from.
Concerning Amaziah and Amariah being the same person.
For Amaziah and Abiah: I have a marriage date of 1790 but the first child born in 1786 last child 1796, so she could have died young or been #2 wife.
Of the children of Amariah and Honor Hogins that I have dates for they were all born between 1795-1807, I have no marriage date at all. This only leaves a year difference for her to have been married to Amaziah. However I have Abaih not dead until 1834
If Amariah and Amaziah both were if fact different people who was Amariahs daddy? The only Carriers in that area at that time had to be Martha and Thomas's descendants. But from my limited resources Neither Andrew, or Thomas Jr had any children or grandchildren along these names or lines. The years of birth help with the process of elimination.
Clearly on the 1820 images of the Chautauqua, Harmony Township, NY, Amariah (Amonioh) is listed. Amariah is one person away from Nathaniel Fenner the father of his son Roberts future wife.
In the same 1820 census Rensselaer, Stephenson NY we find Amaziah. So he can't be listed so close in the same census even if he did move could he? Amaziah is next to two Samuel Carriers one of which is no doubt his son. Conslusion: Amariah and Amaziah can not be the same person.
They lived about 358 miles apart (mapquest)
More on Nathaniel and Amariah: History of Chautauqua County, New York Matthews and Warrenby Andrew W. Young 1875
1st page of Busti history talks of Nathaniel Fenner settling on lot 15 then a few pages later Amariah on lot 15.
There is a Hood Cemetery in Crawford Co PA that happens to be off of Carrier Rd. Perhaps that would be a good cemetery to start with to look for Amariah.
David Carrier supposed son of Amariah was the only one that was supposedly born in Pennsylvania, we might assume this is when Amariah made his move there.
PS one of Roberts sons was also born in PA
As for the mysterious Hogins family it can't be a coincidence that the only Hogins in New York 1800 and 1810 census (Heritage Quest) were both from Rensselaer, Stephenson ( where Amaziah died.) and Berlin NY.
Also Amos Hogins 1810 shows one female under 10, this would be about right for our miss Hogins.
1820 Harmony NY census has our Amariah with as best as I can figure he and his wife are over 45,which is acurate,
two males under 10, could be Amariah Jr and Henry,
2 males bet 16-26,which could be David and Robert
two female under 16.Which could be Samantha and Lucy
Jesse and Rachel were 22 and 25 and both married by now
So now what- were they twins?, likely but no proof, I would like to put this to rest but can't without something to make them twins or at least make Amariah Amos's son.
I think I have exhausted my web research for now. Hoping you folks on the East coast can help with your foot work. A matching birth date on Amariah's grave would be sweet.
Lynda

Bob,
You're lucky to be able to get into cemeteries now, up here we need snowshoes and a shovel. I'm getting a ton of requests for stone photos from www.findagrave.com but can't follow up on any until April or May.
I've been playing around a wiki for Carrier Genealogy at http://carrier-genealogy.wikispaces.com/ , I'm not sure if there's enough interest to make it worthwhile, will wait and see.
I've added a link to your page on the Web Links page.

Good morning folks,
I went to the Burying grounds in Colchester yesterday. I was kind of surprised to see that a lot of the stones are breaking apart. I am hoping that someone has pictures of the Carrier stones that are there. At least four of the stones that I know are Carrier stones are totally destroyed because of moisture getting into the stone and they are breaking apart. I took a few picutes there in Colchester and I am am posting them on my site. I also visited the Marlborough Cemetery where Thomas Carrier's Stone is. I will be posting this on the site also. Myself and my future wife kinda gave up on the mission. Little to cold for Stone hunting. I do have pictures somewhere on disk that I took back in the 90's of the stones. I hope I can find them. I also have over 100 inscriptions from the stones when I went back then. I will be posting these on the site also. If you have any photos of the Carrier stones in Connecticut Cemeteries I would be grateful if you would share them and I also w!
ill post them on my site (with permission of course). More to follow in the great search.

Note..Neil Carrier...I have placed a link on my site to yours!

I don't think there is a Crawford Co. NY.
Crawford Co. in Pa is just south of Erie
and southwest of Chautauqua Lake. Rome and
Randolph Twp.s are in Crawford co., Pa.
I was searching last night on some different
family trees and found several with Amariah
having died in 1847 in Crawford Co. Pa.
or just Pa. Found 4 more cemeteries listed
in Randolph Twp.(Randolph and Rome Twps. neighbor
one another) There are also land deeds for Amariah in Mich

Nada,
My Carrier line is along your lines as well, Alvester son of Robert, Fred son of Alverster. I live in Dubuque and met some Carriers at my mother-in-laws(daughter of Fred) wake in Gutternberg. Are you related? I would love to fill the blanks on your line if you have a GED.

I have been bragging about my line to Martha and Thomas as well but when the Mayfvlower society begged to differ, that's when I decided to prove it!
If in fact they were un-recorded twins it could prove difficult.
But isn't the hunt what geneaology is all about!

Info on Amariah:
ID: I00945
Name: Amariah Carrier
Sex: M
Birth: 17 JUL 1754 in Colchester, Conn
Death: 1847 in Crawford Co., N.Y.
Note:
Amariah settled on the west side of Chautauqua Lake in Chautauque Co., N.Y.. The archives in Crawford Co. finds two deeds for Amariah Carrier. On November 18, 1836 he bought 200 acres of donation land in the eighth district, No. 1643 northeast Centerville, from James White, no wife mentioned. Then on May 19, 1842 he sold the land to Peter Day of Rome Township. Amariah was then living in Randolph Township, and in the body of his deed is mentioned in Quotes, "and Annor his wife" four different times. Apparently Amariah and Amaziah are twins. Only a single birth was recorded. Amariah died in 1847 at age 93 while Amaziahs petition for war pension, S12438, gives his date of birth as July 17, 1754.
This is from our family genealogy.

Per George May
They were born on the same day July 17, 1754 to the same parents, but the notes attached to this family does seem to show conflict about Amariah & Amaziah.

I'm not far from Crawford Co., Pa.
Could take a drive when the snow thaws!
I've found 3 cemeteries listed in Randolph twp.
If he died there.
Chautaqua and Erie are farther north, but if he died
in Busti we could find that too.
Does anyone know where he lived at the time of his
death?
