That would be him. Don't know what he did with the proceeds... although they
didn't need it. They inherited quite a bit from a Brainard uncle or
something from their family. Sadly, when my grandfather died before his
father (the year before) his wife and my mom were written out of the will.
My mom says there was a lot of bad blood about that because she never got
the kind of education that her cousins got with the money that should have
been theirs. They apparently blamed my grandmother for giving my grandfather
the heart attack that killed him. I think he was just unhealthy. I am sad
that I never got to meet him though. :-(

I think she lived in eastern Mass. and her family line was in the Saratoga
NY area (really a B.A.G.).
Tongue in cheek but was your grandfather (Carrier) on a chain gang breaking
rocks in the Vermont Quarry?

Jean,
A few years back you sent me some of your family photos. Unfortunately I
lost the emails where you identified them but saved the pictures.
Some of your pic's start at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~carrier/Carrier_Family_WEB/subal...
Could you identify who they are especially the chap in #29 and what is the
medal he's wearing in the pic.
Thanks,
Neal

Here you go Jean. Just take a bus trip to Canada to get some prescriptions
filled & pick up a DNA test kit at the same time.
This was posted by Dick Eastman in his news letter today.
I must admit that I was a bit surprised to see an ad for a "DNA Maternal
Ancestry Package" at BestBuy stores in Canada. Imagine the concept: stop by
the store, pick up a laptop computer, a new dishwasher, and maybe a couple
of CDs, and find your ancestry. All this can be done in one quick visit.
Well, almost.
In fact, BestBuy of Canada is selling DNA Maternal Ancestry Packages
produced by the DNA Ancestry Project of Vancouver, British Columbia. With
the maternal ancestry package, a male or female individual can trace their
maternal roots (only) and discover their maternal origins.
Quoting from BestBuy's advertising:
"The Maternal DNA Ancestry package allows you to trace your ancestry on your
maternal line: Travel back in time 150,000 years and learn about the ancient
origins of your ancestry. Use the DNA Archaeology feature to find out if you
are linked to royalty! See if you are related to Marie Antoinette, Thomas
Jefferson, Queen Victoria, the Ramanovs, Jesse James, and many more.
Discover long lost relatives and instantly add branches to your family
tree."
I don't think it is quite as easy as that advertisement claims although you
certainly should be able to trace your maternal line back several thousands
of years. I am not sure how you find the connections to Jesse James or the
other people mentioned, however.
I especially enjoyed reading BestBuy's list of "System Requirements:"
Optical Drive: Information Not Available
CPU Speed: Information Not Available
CPU Type: Information Not Available
Disk Space: Information Not Available

Operating System Compatibility: Information Not Available
You can read the online advertisement at
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10097030&cat....
The same "DNA Maternal Ancestry Package" supposedly is also available at The
Bay stores across Canada, but I could not find it listed on The Bay's web
site. I also do not see this kit listed in U.S. BestBuy stores.

But you can do it from here http://www.dnaancestryproject.com/ and they use
the Marie Antoinette story too, to lure buyers.

Jean,
Probably a good idea to keep our eyes open. If we don't Al Gore will claim
he invented A.C. or else that it's what's killing the polar bears.

Let us not forget that slaves often took the last name of their owners when they were freed - especially the Yankee ones!!
So they are not necessarily "blood" relatives.

Hi Jean,
Interesting subject.
A couple of year ago I use to pick up some internet chatter from a Toni
Carrier who I believe lived in Florida. I don't remember the subject matter
or lists she was posting but I seem to recall that it pertained to African
American subjects. I think that's where I first heard of the Rosewood
Massacre. Google that, it's interesting.
While your googling, look for "Chubby Carrier" and you'll find our Cajun
cousins.
Also a few years ago there was an African American, Mike Carrier who played
football for the Chicago Bears.
Regarding DNA, other than being a bunch of hocus pocus to get $100 for a
test kit, I don't have much faith in it.
First of all, It's a guy thing in that only the males can be tested to get
any valid data. For instance, I can't be tested to determine descent from my
mothers family.
There was a group doing dna testing on the Fox surname and out of curiosity
I looked at the data they posted and never saw any worthwhile results
posted.
And as Nicole noted, Willis was definitely a white bro.

There is one group that will send you a free kit for DNA family tree
listing. But the data just doesn't really make sense to me. My mother in law
is insisting we all take it. *Rolls Eyes*

Neal;
Have you or any one related to the Carriers. it is for Black history month
or Educating the blacks any way it
states that the air conditioner as well as the lawn mower was by the blacks.
Have no problem with a Black Carrier cuz. Possibly have them in the southern
line. But I thought that a Carrier introduced the air conditioner.
Confused about our heritage.
You know how I am . Also are they giveing the females DNA to trace their
