Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I don't know how accurate this information is but thought it was interesting.

According to records I've seen, the first JAMMES / GEMME to use the
CARRIERE name in Canada was a soldier.
To make a story short... CARRIERE = CAREER
He was a career soldier and was given the "dit" name of CARRIERE.
Now not all CARRIEREs descend from GEMMES / JAMMES.
There is also the CARRIER clan that some have changed to CARRIERE and
there are some of these CARRIER clan lines that were given (or took) the
"dit" name of JAMMES / GEMME.
And to add to the confusion... Some of these CARRIER-dit-JAMMES lines
believed that CARRIER was the "dit" name and today can be found as GEMME or
JAMMES or... in some Anglophone areas as JAMES... And of course... some of
the JAMES will tell you that they are of British stock... and have NO French blood
in their background (similar to many SMARTs in New England who were originally
SIMART --- but that's another story)

probably at Point Claire mid-1700s. Also, does anyone have rundown on the
Jamme name and it's derivitives. I seem to find Jamme, Jammes, James and
Jamme dit Carriere used interchangeably.

I recently returned from Salt Lake City, where I made a copy of the 1860 KY
Mortality Schedule for Pulaski Co. On page 539 of FHL film No. 0422420, I
found:
Thomas Carrier, age 85, male, "M" indicating he was married (not widowed),
place of birth was Tennessee, month was May, his occupation was "Farmer," he
died of "old age," and he was ill for 10 days.
So according to this document, Nancy was still alive in May, 1860, and
probably living in Pulaski/Pulasky Co. This also shows Thomas as born in TN.
