Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
While I fully support what our forefathers did during the American
Revolution, there are those who supported the "other" side, Carriers
included.
I know of at least one family from Conn. or Mass. who felt strongly enough
about it to move to Canada after the war, so for any possible descendants of
them I'm forwarding this info.
Good hunting..

************************************************************************
We are very pleased to announce the GRAND OPENING of the first website
dealing specifically with the Loyalists of the American Revolution to
combine
genealogy, military history and living history.
The On-Line Institute for Advanced Loyalist Studies (Royalprovincial.com) is
the collaborative effort of Todd Braisted of New Jersey and Nan Cole of
Illinois. Todd is an independent researcher with an extensive background in
Loyalist military studies. Nan is a genealogist and researcher and hosts
both a Loyalist and a Canadian genealogy chat group. This project was
started in April of 1999 with the goal of providing detailed, accurate
Loyalist information to anyone who might have an interest. The site is not
intended to serve as an introduction to what a Loyalist is, but rather is a
place for those who are seeking detailed, specific information about
individual Loyalist regiments or soldiers.
The site is broken down into several major areas: History, Military,
Genealogy, Reenacting and Miscellaneous. Among the original information to
be found is a complete listing of all known Loyalist units that existed
between 1775 and 1784, and a chronological list of battles and engagements
during the war, along with the Loyalist units that took part in each. There
are hundreds of transcribed documents, including courts martials, muster
rolls, orderly books, regimental correspondence, deserter descriptions,
battle reports, newspaper accounts, songs, poems, memorials, land grant
petitions, intelligence reports, clothing returns, church records, Black
Loyalist materials, proclamations, recruiting notices, Rebel accounts of
Loyalists, distributions, and women's documents. Our on-line research
address book provides addresses, hours of operation, phone numbers and
website links to the major research centers for Loyalist manuscript
materials
and genealogies and will be expanded in the future to include additional
repositories, churches, organizations and societies of interest to Loyalist
researchers. In the Reenacting section you will be able to learn about
Living History and the groups that portray the Loyalists today, see photos
of
the groups and of past events, and find out how to get in touch with the
group of your choice. Plus much, more.
While the site currently contains over 1,000 pages of information, it is by
no means complete. The amount of information planned for the future is more
than double the amount currently on-line. So, if you do not find
information
on the individual or group you are looking for now, please stop back soon,
as
we will be updating things on an ongoing basis. You can also sign up to
receive a free monthly notification of the new materials that have been
added.
To celebrate our grand opening, we will be conducting a special "Loyalist
contest" on Monday, February 7th, our first day live. It costs nothing to
enter and will give you a chance to test your knowledge (or just get lucky
and guess right!) to win a small prize. Please stop by for details and
enter! And while you are there, take a minute to sign our Guestbook or post
a message or query on our Genealogy or History Message Boards.
We look forward to greeting our visitors and assisting them with their
Loyalist questions. Please follow this link/address to enter our site.
Thanks!

I spoke to my mother about the Carrier family in Vermont. My grandfather did
indeed visit Carrier relations in Vermont. To be specific, in the White
Mountain region of Vermont. Apparantly, they all had very strange names as
well, one of which was named Hepsibah (sp?) as of the same name from the
Bible. This was any time between 1916 and 1955. Just to clarify, I am a
direct descendant of Thomas, and am of the Middle Haddam, Connecticut Carrier
family.

Nicole,
This Vermont branch of Carrier's has been very elusive. I haven't seen any
Carrier's in George Mays book show up in Vermont, most seemed to have stayed
in Mass. and Conn. in the early years with a few going to New Hampshire.
A few months ago some of us ran into a line of Carrier's (or Currier) that
migrated from Vermont to Holland, New York. Both variations of the last
name show up there.
I find it strange that in the references given in the original posting to
the Caswell list the name Currier showing up.
Also there have been some postings to the list that have Carrier's migrating
to the Plattsburgh area of New York from Canada. I suppose it would be
possible that some of the Vermont Carrier's came that route also.
Guess we'll have to keep diggin.

Well Neil, as I said, all I have to link my self to Vermont is the fact that
there were Marble Quarries owned by immediate family. I do not know if all
those years that my Grandfather was going up to VT to see cousins/do business
were cousins of the Carrier line. Since the Quarries were owned by the
Brainerd line, it is quite possible that Alfred Jr was going to visit
Brainerd cousins(?) I really have no direct linkage to any Carrier's up in
VT, so I must assume it was a Brainerd cousin. Anyone in our family that was
a Carrier, and close enough to be a cousin to Alfred Jr., was most definitely
in CT. We are very few in our end of the line, and extremely exclusive. Oh!
Also, this is off topic, but you recall the article on N.B.A Carrier? I
recently figured out how he was related to my family. Well, He is the son of
John Carrier by John's second wife Mary Hamilton. John A. Carrier was the
only child of John's marriage to Adeline Childs. So, N.B.A (Noyes Brainerd
Alden Carrier) was a step brother to John Alden Carrier (who married Caroline
J. Simpson) Thanks so much for sending that article back in the day!!!
Nicole
I found this on another list and thought I'd pass it on.

I think that somehow I may be related to those Carrier's in Vermont. My g-g
grandfather John Alden Carrier (that married Caroline J. Simpson) named their
son Alfred Brainerd Carrier after Caroline's rich and childless brother in
law Edward Root Brainerd. Edward Root Brainerd was the owner of marble
quarries in Joliet and Chicago, Ill; and also in Vermont. Edward's father was
Alfred Brainerd. Anyway, somehow either Alfred Brainerd Carrier Sr. (John A.
and Caroline Simpson's son) or Alfred Brainerd Carrier Jr. (ABC Sr. and
Florence May Cooper's son; my grandfather) got involved in the marble
business, more likely the junior. There are alot of stories of my grandfather
constantly travelling to Vermont to either do business or visit cousins. So,
there must be some way I am related to them. Hope this isn't too confusing.
If it is, let me know so I can clarify!
