Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Hi, I'm Janet, in Yorba Linda, CA.
I've got my CARRIER line back to Thomas, b. 1764 in VA, d. 1860 in Pulaski
Co., KY. He also lived in Laurel Co., KY. His father was possibly John, who
married Mary Morrell in Shenandoah Co., VA in 1773 (may have been a 2nd or 3rd
marriage). I haven't found any mention of Canada, etc., but I'm planning a
trip to Salt Lake City soon. Who knows what I may turn up there - might just
get lucky! I know my CARRIER line was in eastern TN and VA for several
generations. This area (eastern TN) doesn't have census until 1830, which
makes it rather difficult. My CARRIER line moved into Iowa about 1880 or so.
There are some CARRIERs buried in the Newton Union Cemetery, Jasper Co., Iowa.
Several years ago I corresponded with Helynn CARRIER and discovered her line
is not the same as mine.
Janet
Good evening all,
Well the list has been running for over a week and things are kind of
quiet. I wanted to post a few things that might be interesting to those
new to the roots web and internet in general.
1. A few people have subscribed to the digest mode. I think that roots
web holds the list message's for a while until the digest gets big
enough to send out. As traffic is so slow now I might recommend that
all the Digest subscribers might want to unsubcribe from that mode and
resubscribe to the list mode. Then when we get real gabby you can
switch back to the digest mode. If anyone doesn't know how to do that,
email me and I'll change you.
2. Roots web is setting up a new archive service which, when tested out
and proven ok, all the posts to the list will be stored for a period of
time for us to go back and look at. I signed up the Carrier list on
February 9. Any posts made before that are not archived now. I think I
have saved most of them and will be resending them to the list so they
will be archived. This will also enable some of those who signed up
later and missed the initial roll-call to see what's been posted so far.
When the archiver is up and running I'll post instructions on how to use
it.
3. For the New England branch of the family, there are some rootsweb
lists that you might be interested it If you don't know them already.
ESSEX-ROOTS-L(a)rootsweb.com Covers the area around Salem and Andover
where Martha and Thomas first lived. There isn't too much relevant to
our family posted here but every now and then a nugget comes through.
You also gain a lot of general background on the area and the mood of
the time. It is a busy list.
SALEM-WITCH-L-(a)rootsweb.com A very interesting list for obvious
reasons. It's been kind of quiet lately but again, a lot of trial and
family info can be obtained.
INGALLS-L(a)rootsweb.com As Martha Allen's mother was an Ingalls it is of
interest. The Ingalls family is quite interesting and I was able to see
our very very very distant relationship to Laura Ingalls Wilder of The
Little House On The Prairie fame.
CTMIDDLE-L(a)rootsweb.com This seems to be a new list just started. It
covers the area around Haddam and East Haddam Conn. This is near the
Colchester Conn area where Thomas and his sons settled. In my data base
I have a lot of Carrier's and other families having lived in this area.
Like I said it's a new list so I don't know how it's going to be, but
probably worth looking at.
I know there is something else I wanted to say here, and I'll remember
it as soon as I hit the sent button. O'well
good nite
