Fred,
A possibility for the parents of your Sarah (Carrico) Kalar [Keller] is
Peter & Catherine Carrico who moved from Maryland to what is now Preston
Co WV.
Morton's 1914 History of Preston County states Peter, Francis, and
Catherine Carrico arrived in 1786 on the Pulliam farm at the mouth of
Wolf Creek. It is not known that their parents came with them.
The only proven children of Peter & Catherine Carrico are Verlinda
(1777-1857), Joseph (1792-1868) and Ann Eliza (1798-1884). Morton's
History of Preston County states that Joseph was the only son of Peter
Carrico.
Peter Carrico was probably born in the 1750's or earlier and apparently
died in 1815 before the formation of Preston Co from Monongalia Co in
1818 as this is the last year he appears on the personal property tax
lists for Monongalia Co. In 1816 Catherine Carrico (presumably the widow
of Peter) appears on the Monongalia Co personal property tax list.
If Morton is correct in stating Joseph was the only son of Peter, the
remainder of his children were daughters. There is a big gap between
1777-98 with Joseph born 1792 the only known child born during this
period. The 1810 census of Monongalia Co indicates Peter and Catherine
may have had more sons than just Joseph. Unfortunately, Peter left no
will or probate record naming his heirs. Also, Monongalia Co records
prior 1796 were destroyed by fire.
Sarah (Carrico) Kalar would have been about two or three years older than
Verlinda (aka Malinda) and would fit into this family age-wise. The
Kalar family seems to have lived in neighboring Randolph Co, the area in
which they lived becoming Tucker Co in 1856.
Hope this information helps in your research. I descend from Monica
Carrico born probably in the early 1740's who married John Turton Goff.
Her parentage is unknown but she was possibly a sister of Peter Carrico
as both ended up in what is now Preston Co WV. The other Carricos
remained in Maryland or moved to Kentucky.
