Message Board Post:
I copied the following information from an abstract of Jefferson Co., KY marriages:
Cairco, Josias (sig)
Callico, Josiah (in bond); bd. Thos. Anderson, Jr.
Anderson, Catherine; f. Thomas Anderson, Sr.
B: 11-5-1796
M: 11-3-1796
The bondsman, Thomas Anderson, Jr. was Catherine's brother. A month later, Thomas
married Rachel Anderson, daughter of Revolutionary War pensioner James Anderson and Inez
Lavarro (of Cuba). Supposedly, the two were not related, however, I would like to verify
this.
I have pasted some of the information I have on the Thomas Anderson and James Anderson
lines. I'm curious if anyone is aware of a relationship between the Anderson and
Carrico families before this marriage (perhaps in Maryland or in the Caribbean). The name
Carrico appears to be of Spanish origin. Since James Anderson's wife was Cuban, it
makes me wonder if there was a connection. In addition (as the information below shows),
Thomas Anderson, Sr. was the son of a sea captain.
Here's what I have...loosely organized:
Descendants of Thomas Anderson
Generation No. 1
1. THOMAS1 ANDERSON was born Abt. 1755. He married LADY MARGARET DEWEY. She was born
December 25, 1755 in Edinburg, Scotland, and died October 12, 1834 in Sandborn, Knox Co.,
IN.
Children of THOMAS ANDERSON and LADY DEWEY are:
2. i. THOMAS2 ANDERSON, b. 1777; d. December 20, 1841, Knox Co, IN.
ii. CATHERINE ANDERSON, b. Abt. 1777; m. JOSIAH CARRICO, November 10, 1796,
Jefferson Co., KY; b. 1769, Maryland (possibly).
Generation No. 2
2. THOMAS2 ANDERSON (THOMAS1) was born 1777, and died December 20, 1841 in Knox Co, IN. He
married RACHEL ANDERSON December 10, 1796 in Jefferson Co., KY, daughter of JAMES ANDERSON
and INEZ LAVARRO. She was born August 5, 1777, and died February 28, 1856 in Knox Co, IN.
I found the following from a Knox County, IN genealogy site:
http://accessknoxcounty.com/communities/sandborn.html
"Probably the earliest settler in the area was Thomas Anderson II, who had migrated
with his mother and sister to Knox County shortly before 1800. His mother was Lady
Margaret Dewey, whose father was a wealthy Scottish nobleman who wanted her to marry a
titled person. Lady Margaret had other ideas, however. Foregoing her inheritance, she
sailed away to America and eventually married Thomas Anderson, the son of the sea captain
who had brought her to these shores".
Thomas Anderson II and his wife Rachel entered land April 18, 1818, at what is now the
southeast edge of Sandborn, on the present Jim Yagle farm. Here he built the "big log
house" in which several generations of Andersons were born.
