Several of the Butler family ended up here in my home county of Hamilton Co., OH. Will of
Fanny
Butler, dated 5 Jan 1815, probated 6 May 1822, mentions sisters Milly Carrico & Kitty
Carrico.
It would now appear that possibly 3 of Bartholomew & Kitty's daughters came to
Hamilton Co., OH!
First, I came upon the death certificate of a Hannah Layman b. 1842 who died in 1910. It
stated that
her father was Wm La Baiteaux (Laboiteaux/Laboyteaux) & Louise Carrico who was b. in
MD.
Marriage Records Hamilton County Ohio 1817 - 1837 Louisa's surname is listed as Carso,
she married
William in Jan. 1836. In 1850 Wm & Louisa are living in Springfield Twp. Louisa is
shown as age 35
b. VA, but as I tracked her through the census, her place of birth changes between VA
& MD. Louisa
died in 1891 & is buried at Spring Grove which record gives her maiden name as
Carico.
There is also a Rachel A. Carico buried at Spring Grove who died in 1874 age abt 60 years.
Burial
was ordered by LaGrand Laboyteaux who appears by the census records to be Louisa's
son. Ford's
History of Hamilton Co. under the section for Springfield Twp. indicates a Rachel Carico
dropped
dead at the train station in 1876. Surely this is the same Rachel, even though the dates
differ by 2
years.
In 1850 Rachel Ann Carico is living in Springfield Twp with James & Eliza Seward. Her
age is given
as 24 b. MD. If this is Barth. & Kitty's dau. she would have to be older that 24
in 1850, I haven't
yet been able to find her in 1860 or 1870 to confirm her age, but going by Spring
Grove's records
she would have been born abt. 1814.
Eliza Seward, whom she was living with in 1850, was 41 & also born in MD. I found a
marriage record
in the Hamilton Co. book for an Eliza "Rickey" to James Seward in 1837. Shelby
Co., KY marriage
records indicate an Eliza Carrico married John Ritchey in 1824. I'm guessing at this
point that this
is the same Eliza. Still looking for additional information.
I attempted to see if any other children of Barth. & Kitty may have headed to OH &
poss. have found
another dau. A Mary C. Carrico married James M. Figg in Shelby Co., KY in 1837. In 1850
there are a
couple of James Figgs in KY, one in Shelby Co. is aged 33 but appears to be single. But, I
discovered a marriage record in 1853 Shelby Co., KY of a James M. Figg to Mary Clements in
1853, it
indicates this is a 2nd marriage for him & I can't quite be sure, but it looks
like it also
indicates he was "divorced". So I began my search again for a Mary Figg &
found a Mary Figg in
Fairfield, Butler Co. (Butler Co. borders Hamilton Co., Springfield Twp.) age 28 b. MD
with Melvena
age 10 b. KY, Anne E. age 6 b. OH & Reuba C B (??? a male) age 3 b. OH & in 1860 a
Vina Feigg age 19
b. KY is living in Springfield Twp, Hamilton Co., OH with a Robert Riley family. Still
looking for
more on this line, so still not sure if this connects or not.
Anyway, I'm still trying to gather information, & not 100% certain I'm on the
right track, but the
odds are leaning heavily in my favor :-) Would appreciate hearing from anyone with
additional
information.
