In defense of Homer Edwin Carrico, his work was published in 1951 when
resources were much more limited than they are today.
Although he laid the groundwork for future researchers, his work is far from
perfect and has led some researchers astray. A glaring example is that he
shows the husband of Sibbeth Holbert as Albert Coleman Carrico (1792-1869),
son of Joseph Carrico and grandson of Peter Carrico born ca 1722. The
husband of Sibbeth Holbert was Joseph Carrico (1792-1869), son of Peter
Carrico born probably in the 1750's who may have been a son of Peter Carrico
born ca 1722. Albert Coleman Carrico was the son of Joseph & Sibbeth
(Holbert) Carrico rather than being the husband of Sibbeth. The above facts
have all been proven by census and county records.
I feel there is a close connection between Peter Carrico born ca 1722 and
Monica (Carrico) Goff born probably in the 1740's if Peter Carrico born ca
1722 is the father of the Peter Carrico born in the 1750's as the latter
Peter and Monica (Carrico) Goff both ended up in present day Preston Co WV.
The fact that Monica named her oldest son James Carrico Goff may provide a
clue as to her paternity.

I do not consider Homer Edwin Carrico to have been a dependable
researcher
(I
wish he'd never published his work). What we need is the
correspondence
he
engaged in, but I don't suppose that has survived.
Actually, we have a fairly narrow time range for Monica's birth, based on
the
birthdates of her eldest and youngest children (James in 1762 and
Ludee in
1784). Assuming those birthyears are correct, they are separated in age
by 22
years, a typical span of female fecundity.
The average female marries at the age of 19 and has a maximum span of
fecundity
of 23 years, that is, first child at age 20 and last child by age 43.
These
constraints place Monica's age at very close to 1742 (possible a
couple of
years
later, but not earlier, because she would have been too old to be
Ludee's
mother).
Given a birthyear ca. 1742, Monica would have to be a daughter of either
Peter
II, his brother James I, his brother Abel I -- or mystery-man Gerrard
CARRICO.
Or, of course, some CARRICO we've overlooked, entirely.
