Diana:
Not sure where these people get their data but a quick check of the Paris, Lyon and
Marseilles online phone directories show seven Carricos. Most of their forenames sounded
suspiciously Portuguese from the spelling. Unless the Carricos are all hiding out in the
smaller cities and villages, I would not take the
publicprofiler.com website very
seriously as a research tool.

A fun site to play with is the WorldNames database at PublicProfiler:
http://www.publicprofiler.org/worldnames/Default.aspx
A check on CARRICO finds it most common in the United States, then France
second. A check on CARICO finds it also most common in the U.S., but second in
Italy. A check on CARACO finds it most common in Italy, and a check on CARRERO
finds it most common in Spain.
You do need to be careful how much significance you give to these frequencies,
however. They're highly dependent on the data sources that happen to be in
included in the database. In particular, Portugal is not represented, at all.
Plus, CARRICO and similar names are all very rare. The database will have to
become much larger before the sample size becomes large enough to be really
meaningful.
Still, it's fun to play with. My surname, MATTHIESEN, is Danish. If I do a
search on MATTHIESEN, the name is, not surprisingly, most common in Demark. If
I click on the word Denmark in the list of countries on the right, the map zooms
in to show the distribution in Denmark. The area where MATTHIESEN is
concentrated, Sønderjylland, is where my ancestors came from. Kewl.
Not too surprisingly, if you search on CARRICO and click the link to the United
States, you find the name is most common in Kentucky, Indiana, and West
Virginia.
Please note that our replies are to the list and not to the board. The original
poster to the board will not see your reply or mine to you, unless he/she is a
subscriber to the list.

It is possible but it appears to me to be Carrero. The place
name for their
nearest relative seems to be Zahara, my reading, one such
village is near
Gibraltar, Zahara de los Atunes and the other, Zahara de la Sierra, is
inland and north of Gibraltar. Still a puzzle and any
thoughts are useful.
