Just going to chime in here with my Malinda/Verlinda Carrico b. May
12,
1777 Md.
That's what this list is for.
Judy Jennings did find a death record at Richmond, Va. which stated
Malinda's >parents to be Peter and Catherine Carrico. You, also, ref. it
in your letter i.e.:
"Virlinda Wotring, white, female,---dgtr of Peter and Catherine
Carrico----"
(some believe death records and some not---I am prone to do so
because,
in
30-some years of searching, I have not come up with a Francis
<g>
--ref. info in >Morton book )
I would trust a record made at the time of death (with the informant
being a son)
before I would a county history written 57 years after the event
occurred. Morton wasn't even a Preston Co native. His family was from
Maine. Morton lists Malinda/ Verlinda Carrico and Ann Eliza Carrico who
married Thomas Hebb as daughters of Francis Carrico but their parents
were actually Peter & Catharine Carrico as shown by more reliable
sources. The general opinion is that there are many errors in Morton's
book.
Carol Mitchell, I recall, had some information on Monica several
month's
ago.
(personal letter -not on this List). Hope she will share it with us
all.
So do I.
Back to Peter Carrico b. 1722 Md.----there lies my problem. Your
census
of 1810 has "P. Carrico with l male 16-26 and l female (assume you meant
female) 10-16 and 2 females under 10 ". If this is Peter b. 1722, it is
unlikely
(not impossible) that this Peter would be about 78 years old and
fathering >children-----this might mean that there was another Peter
between the Md.
Peter and my Melinda. Does this make sense???
The 1810
Monongalia Co WV census shows 1 male (rather than female) 10-16
in the household of P(eter) Carrico. This Peter is of a later generation
than
Peter Jr born 1722. He may be the son of Peter Jr. This is what I'm
trying
to determine. He is apparently the Peter Carrico mentioned by Morton as
being
a brother of Francis and Catharine. The children of Peter Carrico Jr b
1722 may
(and I stress may) have included: Joseph b 1744, Monica (assuming she is
a
sister of Catharine) b 1740's? m John Turton Goff, Alexander b 1750 m
Mary
Sedgewick, Peter [III-my designation] b sometime before 1765 m Catharine
______, Francis, Catharine b 1765-75 m James Goff, others. Morton states
Peter, Francis & Catharine had four brothers--one settled in Culpeper Co
VA, one
settled [or remained?] in Charles Co MD and one settled in KY
[Alexander?].
The fourth brother is apparently Joseph whom Morton does not name. BTW,
does anyone have a list of the children of Peter Sr's son John who
married
Monica ______? The Homer Edwin Carrico material only names one known
child, a son James.
I have the book Aurora Documents by (he preferred
"translated") Carl
Gower/Gauer? Ana Elisa Carrico's baptism is in the book. (Lutheran
Church Records of Aurora, Preston Co., WVa.)
I have this book also (the author is
Karl Gower) and made an every name
index to it. Daniel & Malinda/Verlinda Wotring are referred to as Daniel
&
Linni, Daniel & Worlinda, Daniel & Worlindra and Daniel & Worlintra in
the
baptismal records. Remember, these records were translated from the
German.
In my extractions of the Preston Co vital records 1853-1860 (this was
almost a
translation also), I found some names were used interchangeably. These
include Malinda and Belinda, Louisa and Eliza, Christian and Christopher,
Jehu and John
and sometimes Daniel and David.
Have fun all!!!
Carolyn
You, too. Hope I have been of some help. (I probably just have enough
knowledge
of the Carricos to make me dangerous!)
Roy
