C. H. RING, 77, DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
HAD BEEN RESIDENT OF NORFOLK PAST 35 YEARS
Chapman H. Ring, 77, died at 5 a.m. Monday at the hospital
of the Old Folks Home in Coleridge. He had been bedfast since
stricken by a paralytic stroke nineteen months ago.
Born in Richmond, VA., in 1870, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Ring, he came to Nebraska in 1905 and settled at Battle Creek.
In 1912, he moved to Norfolk where he lived until his death.
Ring was a patient at the Verges Hospital until it closed at
which time he was moved to the Coleridge institution.
Many people in Norfolk and vicinity will remember him as one
of the old-time fiddlers. Ring, playing his fiddle, presented one
of the first broadcasts over WJAG.
He is survived by one brother, William John Ring of Westover,
Md.; two sons, T. R. Ring Sr. of Norfolk and W. J. Ring of
Billings, Mt., and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Chapman H. Ring
Funeral rites for Chapman Hicks Ring, 77, long time resident
of Norfolk who died Monday in a hospital at Coleridge were
conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Home for Funerals
by Dr. Harry H Hess First Methodist church minister.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial park, with Mr. Ring's sons
and grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Ring who was known as "Uncle Hicks" to many, was born
July 26, 1870 in Grayson County, Virginia, the son of Dr. and
Mrs. W. J. Ring. His father practiced medicine in Grayson
County for many years.
Mr. Ring was married on Christmas Day in 1900 to Anna
Carrico. Five years later they moved to Battle Creek and
seven years later to Norfolk. He followed the trade of painting
and interior decorating for many years. He was skilled in
photography when the old tintype print was in use.
He was widely known as an old time fiddler, and as such
presented one of the first programs broadcast over station
WJAG twenty five years ago. He had many requests from
listeners for melodies.
Mr. Ring was baptized in Flat Rock Methodist Church in
Virginia. The church derived its name from the fact that it was
constructed on a large flat rock. Mr. Ring remained a faithful
member of the Methodist church throughout his life.
Surviving are two sons, Ted Sr., Norfolk and W. A., Billings,
Mont.; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one
brother, William, Westover, Md.

Mrs. M. A. Valentine
Mrs. M. A. Valentine, 39, 429 Monroe Avenue, died Sunday
morning at her home from the effects of a cerebral hemorrhage
suffered a short time before.
Surviving are her husband, one son, Deon; two brothers, Rex
and John Hash, and one sister, Mrs. Everett Morris, all of Norfolk.
Funeral rites will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon
at the Home for Funerals by the Rev. E. G. Brinkmeyer, First
Congregational Church minister. Burial will be in Prospect Hill
Cemetery. The body was to lie in state from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday
at the Home for Funerals.

Mrs. M. A. Valentine
Funeral rites for Mrs. M. A. Valentine, 39, 429 Monroe Avenue,
who died Sunday morning at her home from the effects of a
cerebral hemorrhage, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the
Home for Funerals by the Rev. E. G. Brinkmeyer, First Congrag-
ational Church pastor.
Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery memorial section with the
following serving as pallbearers: Leo Napier, Ed Berg, Herb
Wintz, Harold Eucker, Raymond Ohian and Ed Harmel.
Mrs. Valentine, whose maiden name was Gladys Marie Hash,
was born Oct. 27, 1907 in Virginia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ellis
Hash.
She was 2 years old when her parents moved to Battle Creek.
She came to Norfolk in 1922, and had since resided here.
She was married in 1935 to Merritt A. Valentine and to them
one son, Deon was born.
Surviving are her husband, son, two brothers; Rex and John,
both of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. Everett Morris, also of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother,
Clarence.

William A and Charlotte (Bennington) Carrico
Gladys Marie (Hash) Valentine was the daughter of
Ellis and Rosa (Carrico) Hash, Rosa was the daughter of
Emanuel and Sarah Carrico.
