YAKIMA - Melba Lucille (Landon) Ahlskog-McGuire-Carrico,
age 83, of Yakima, WA., died Saturday, October 30, 1993 at
Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Portland, OR. on August 5, 1910. Melba
entered the Salvation Army School for Officers' Training in San
Francisco and graduated from there in 1929. She was stationed
as a Salvation Army Officer in Olympia and Raymond before
marrying. After her husband died, she moved to Aberdeen, WA,
where she resided for nearly thirty years.
In 1954 she married Eugene McGuire and they were married
for twenty-five years. She moved to Yakima in 1979 and was
active in the local Salvation Army corps until her death. Melba
was a member of the Salvation Army for seventy years and
held several positions in the corps.
While residing at Good Samaritan, Melba met and married
co-resident Jack Carrico on Valentine's Day, 1990. The couple
made their home together at Good Samaritan until Jack's death
in 1991.
Survivors include Kathy McGuire of Spokane and her three
children; Judy Bedard of Yakima and her daughter, Mandy; her
step-son, James McGuite of Kalispell, MT.; her step-daughter,
Gael Scott of Camas, WA.; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Brodin of
Beaverton, OR. and Mrs. Betty Maas of Salem, OR. and a brother,
Reverend Eldred Landon also of Salem.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 3rd at 2:00
P.M. at the Salvation Army, 310 N. 16th Ave., Yakima. Interment
will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Memorials may be made
to the local Salvation Army.
