Mrs. Walter Carrico
The people of Newman Grove were shocked Tuesday morning
to learn of the death of Mrs. Walter Carrico. Mrs. Carrico died of
blood poisoning resulting from a small scratch on her lip
becoming infected and spreading until there was no hopes for
her recovery.
Mrs. Carrico's maiden name was Pearl Kauffman. She was born
in Madison County, August 5, 1890. Her father homesteaded a
farm in Iowa Valley where he now lives. At the age of twelve she
united with the United Brethren Church at Hillsdale. She was
educated in the country schools and the Meadow Gove High
School. She attended at the latter place when the writer was
principal of the schools there twelve years ago. As a pupil she
was perservering and faithful and is remembered as a model
student.
On October 15, 1910 she was united in marriage to Walter
Carrico and to this union five children were born, four of them
living and one dying in infancy. The illness was of short duration
and she departed this life May 15, 1919 at the age of 28 years,
8 months and 10 days. Beside her husband and children, she
leaves her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kauffman,
four brothers, two sisters and other relatives.
Mrs. Carrico was a splendid type of womanhood, a loving wife
and devoted mother. Her sudden demise was a great shock to
both friends and relatives. Her body was laid to rest on Sunday
afternoon at Hope Cemetery, the services being held at the
Methodist Church, with Rev. H. A. Taylor in charge. The bereaved
ones have the sympathy of the entire community.
