The forwarded message was originally sent to CARRICO-L in December,
2000. I have an additional question regarding anyone with any detailed
knowledge on Matthew W. Carrico (1791-1842). Specifically, I'm
wondering if anyone has an idea what the "W" stood for? The name
"Winant" is common in many of my Carrico relatives in the last several
generations -- so it would be helpful to determine what the "W" stood
for in Matthew W. Carrico's name.
Any other detail information about Matthew W. Carrico would be
appreciated. About all I know about him is what is included in my
forwarded message from December, 2000.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Subject: Mystery regarding Matthew W. Carrico
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
This is my first time to use this method of posting a message to
individuals on the Carrico mailing list, so I hope it works.
I am trying to solve a mystery in the search for my Carrico ancestors
prior to about 1800. Although most of my Carrico relatives have been in
Texas since about 1830, my great, great grandfather, Mathew G. Carrico
(or Carico) listed Kentucky as his state of birth in the 1850 and 1860
Panola County, TX censuses.
The gist of the mystery I'm trying to resolve is as follows: I think it
is possible that Mathew G. Carrico, may have been the first child (born
abt. 1807 to 1810) of Matthew W. Carrico -- however, if that is true,
the birth was not recorded (at least as far as I've been able to find).
Matthew W. Carrico (1791-1842), of Washington and Marion counties, KY,
was married to Ruth O'Daniel January 16, 1812 and their only child I
have information on is Joanne Carrico, born 1825. However, is it
possible that Matthew W. Carrico had a first marriage and that Mathew G.
Carrico is his son from that first marriage?? If so, he would have only
been about 16 to 19 years old when Mathew G. Carrico was born (about
1807-1810) -- and so far, I can find no recorded evidence of a first
marriage (did the first wife die very young -- perhaps in childbirth??)
or the birth of Mathew G. Carrico. Although I have found no recorded
evidence to support this theory, (1) the dates would work, (2) the
Washington County, KY location would be consistent with Mathew G.
Carrico's record in the Texas censuses that his state of birth was
Kentucky, and (3) I believe it was common for first sons to be named
after their father. I also think it is significant that the name
Matthew (or Mathew) is rare in the Carrico lineage -- in fact, the only
Matthew I've found anywhere near this historical time frame is Matthew
W. Carrico.
Any help any of you can give me -- including suggestions of how to
research my theory -- would be greatly appreciated. I would be happy to
provide more details about my family tree to anyone interested.
