Given how many census records I have extracted
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/Census/CensusHome.shtml
I have gotten pretty adept at ferreting people out using the search engine at Ancestry.com. And given how thoroughly I searched for Thomas and his family, without success, I'm at the point where I consider them to have been missed. Or the pages were lost.
I assume you're aware that you can do a truncated wildcard search at Ancestry.com (and WorldConnect) using an asterisk as the wildcard. For example, in looking for Jeremiah, I searched on just jer* car*. If you use the birthyear plus/minus 2 or 5 as a search term, you can narrow it down to a reasonable number of hits to check.

Did you search for the kids? i tried briefly, starting with jeremiah and got nothing. I was also thinking to search for wife #2 and see if that helps. I don't mind doing page by page if we only had a county to go with, the whole state of Indiana is too much. And there are way too many name variations. I probably won't get to til this evening and i may not have much time to give until next week, i am in the midst of cleaning house for family party this weekend.

Well, duhhh. I should have gone to Linda's site, first. I could have saved myself some hair-pulling. We have our connection from Thomas Ignatius I to Vincent to Thomas Igntius III.
I say III, even though most are using II, because Vincent's brother, James, had a son Thomas Ignatius born in 1812, eight years before our subject, so he's II and our subject is III.
What may be the problem here is that we don't have the right birth-year for John. But if John was born after Rachel died and before Thomas married Elizabeth, and Thomas didn't have a wife in-between, we have a bigger problem than just figuring out who his mother was. The most likely explanation then becomes that John is Elizabeth's son, born of a prior husband or relationship *of hers*, making John a stepson of Thomas Ignatius III.
One thing DNA testing can tell us for certain is whether or not John is biologically a CARRICO. Unfortunately, the ambiguity may lead our donor to not accept your line. We do need a candidate with a solid paper trail.

That obit is a jewel. As for the 1860 census, good luck. I searched and searched using ever term I could think of, without success. The only thing I didn't do was a page-by-page search, but I'm not certain enough where he was to do it. Definitely, good luck!

I am a little slow here this morning, but after rereading the obit it says he survived his two wives, so that would eliminate the third.
I guess i really need to dig deeper for the 1860 census, it would really nice to have.

Wow, looks good, you have been busy. I have to say I hate the idea of John having different mother, only cause that makes more work for me, I love knowing the female lines and hate dead ends.
You may be aware of this but there is an obit for Thomas posted here: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~boorom/carrico/inobit1903c...

It's looking good. I think your suspicion that your Thomas Ignatius CARRICO connects to Thomas Ignatius CARRICO I through his son, Vincent CARRICO, is correct. This is what I've put together, so far:

I envy you being so close the the Maryland state archives! It's very kind of you to make an offer to do a search. If I find I have a specific reference to something known to be there, I may take you up on it.

I will try to fill in some of the blanks on my ancestry tree, I already added some census records for Thomas Ignatuis. I have not delved into this too deeply yet, I had been working more on some of the females lines in Indiana and had put off work on the Carricos.
Also, not sure if this helps, but I live in Maryland, 15 minutes gets me to the state archives and I can also visit the local genealogical library where they have tons of local books. I can't guarrantee how much time I have, but if I have a specific search it might make a trip worthwhile.

I will be more than happy to work with you, Katie, and see if we can't solidify your line. Give me a few hours to pull together what I have and get back to you. Maybe a few others can chime in in the meantime.
I found your Carico-Wisthoff "Public Member Tree" at Ancestry.com, so I have that to work from. And checking my web site, I see I have Thomas in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Clay Co., IN, but have not yet made a family group sheet for him:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/Census/Carrico/IN/CarricoCenTime-IN.shtml#Clay
I'll go ahead and start one...

I live with four male Caricos(my husband and our three sons, in fact I have never met a female Carrico, this line has been all males for several generations) that are supposed to be descendants of Thomas Ignatius. I am still working on the hard evidence to prove the lineage beyond the notes that were passed to me. You will find our family tree on ancestry, its called Carico-Wisthoff.
What my father-in-law gave me was not correct(genealogy done by Maud Carrico Russell) and so I have not included the later generations until I have solid proof, maybe that is something that someone can help me with.
At this point I have records for:
Thomas Ignatius 1820-?
John Carico 1857-?
Ernest Carico 1884-1951
Arthur Burdett Carico 1906-1964
Previous to Thomas my records are not complete, but I have figured his father as:
Vincent Carico ?-1842 son of Thomas Ignatius 1740-1812
I am not sure to what detail evidence is needed or if anyone out there has some of the missing pieces. I just started researching in Indiana records online (and I haven't really delved into Kentucky yet) when my father-in-law made a recent trip back to visit family. I am not sure if the line can be proven, but I hope so.
We are definately interested in the dna study and sharing information is not a problem. Please let me know if this is the right lineage and if so what is needed.
thanks,
katie carico

A member of the CARRICO Y-DNA Surname Project
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/DNA/Carrico/CarricoDNA.shtml
has made a very generous offer to fully fund 67-marker tests for two key CARRICO lineages:
Peter CARRICO III (1722- ), son of Peter CARRICO II:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Car/CarricoPeterIII-_.shtml
and his brother, Thomas Ignatius CARRICO (c1741-c1813):
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Car/CarricoThomasIgnatius-ElizabethKirby....
These conditions apply: 1) that you are a male surnamed CARRICO or CARICO with a patrilineal (direct male line) descent from one of the above [no females can break the chain of descent]; 2) that you provide your paper genealogy in sufficient detail that the donor and the project admin are satisfied your connection is genuine; and 3) that you sign the Release allowing your results to be publicly shared. (Note that publicly sharing your results does not mean publicly sharing your identity.)
You have the option of two levels of privacy. You can be tested as an "Anonymous CARRICO" with the project admin serving as the contact person for your account. In this case, only the project admin and the donor necessarily need know who you are, but I strongly discourage this level of secrecy. Rather, I would suggest the standard level of privacy, in which your name and email address are shared, but only privately and only with those for whom you are a DNA match (i.e., other CARRICOs who have also been tested). Either option provides you with public anonymity.
Personally, I do not see the need for any level of privacy, and I show my complete DNA test results, including my mtDNA FGS (full genetic sequence) online:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/DNA/mtDNA-T-haplotree-DGM.shtml
But I do and will respect the wishes of anyone preferring to maintain their privacy.
Each of these subsidies is a testing value worth hundreds of dollars. Only one test per descendant is being offered, so in each case, the first person to contact me who fulfills the conditions gets the test.

Now that I've broadcast this donor's offer to fund a patrilineal descendant of
Peter CARRICO III, I just realized that what I have on the genealogy of his
descendants is a mess -- just contradictory information from secondary sources.
I haven't done any original research on him, except for gathering census records
of his alleged descendants further down the line.
Someone with a potential connection to Peter III has already responded to the
testing offer, and I realize I don't have what I need to verify it. I'm
somewhere between embarrassed and panicked. This is what I have right now on
Peter (and, yes, it's pathetic):
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Car/CarricoPeterIII-_.shtml
Any help appreciated. We may have at our fingertips a chance to test this line,
so it's well worth contributing what you have (or can find). Please. I can't
ask a donor to fund a line without a verified paper trail.

I am a descendent of Thomas Ignatius Carrico, through his daughter Mary Carrico Kerrick, Thomas Ignatius Carrico Kerrick, Catherine Kerrick Bradley and Frances Matilda Bradley Miller (my GGrandmother). All the publicly posted family trees show Thomas Ignatius Carrico's wife as "Elizabeth Kirby", but I have found entries in Henry C. Peden's book "Revolutionary Patriots of Charles County Maryland 1775-1783" that show his wife as "Elizabeth Carrington" (page 45). Peden also lists Jesse Boswell as Elizabeth Carrington's first husband. (page 27).
What records exist that confirm the identity of Thomas Ignatius' wife? Thanks, Ron Miller

It is said that Sarah Elizabeth (nee EDWARDS) married Andrew Jackson CARRICO
(1839-1921) as "S.E. SUMNER." No date or place is given, but it would have been
1907 or 1907 in Virginia, probably Carroll County. Does anyone have this record
or know if these marriage records are online somewhere?

Wow! That's interesting news, Judy. I'm afraid I cannot publicly reveal the
identity of the test subject or his contact, but the contact is now aware of
your message, so I presume will be getting in touch with you.
I'm very pleased to know Sarah's correspondent was named in the divorce. That
helps enormously because presumably he would be John CARRICO's biological
father.
I'm still not entirely convinced the parents of Laura Plutina EDWARDS were Sarah
Elizabeth EDWARDS & James Currin EDWARDS. I find the evidence confusing:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/E/Edwards_-SarahL_.shtml
I'd love to see this straightened out.

I can answer alot of the questions you may have on Laura Plutina Edwards Edwards Carrico. I got interested a long while back and went from WVa to Montgomery Co.,Va. looking for her.Laura was the daughter of James Currin Edwards and Sarah Edwards Edwards. Charles Edwards divorced Laura as she had been fooling around on him. I have a copy of her divorce papers. At the time of her divorce she had an infant that was not Charles'.There was testimony that she was living with an Abraham Newman I believe.I can't find the divorce papers at the moment. Laura had a son named Bert before she married Charles, had George Fulton with Charles and the went west, she had John while living as husband and wife with the Newman?, she married Thomas Carrico who raised John as his own. She also had three children with Thomas -Lolly who died young, and two boys -Gray and Parley , their middle names. When Laura died in WVa. at the funeral home she was listed as Laura Blankenship and her tombstone say!
s Laura Carrico. Both her and Thomas are buried in Elliston,Va. Laura Plutina's brother Hugh Eliot Edwards (my husband's ggrandfather)was married to Laura Pierce Carrico. Anymore questions let me know and hopefully I can answer them. Is it a Linda that is doing the DNA?? I have been trying to get ahold of her.

I have a CARRICO genealogy problem that has me tearing my hair...
There is a John CARRICO who appears to be the stepson of a Thomas E. CARRICO of
Carroll Co., VA. Even if he's not a CARRICO by blood, he is a CARRICO by name,
and I'd like to have the paper genealogy of both his biological father and
stepfather correctly done. Please consider my family group sheets for them
incomplete and very tentative. I know they're not "right," but for the moment,
I'm burned out on working on them. You can hook into them from Thomas's page:
http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/Car/CarricoThomasE-LauraPlutinaEdwards.shtml
Some family members believe John is really Thomas CARRICO's biological son, not
the son of Laura's prior husband, Charles EDWARDS. A descendant of John is
currently being DNA tested, which will answer that question, but either way, I'd
like to connect Thomas to his parents.
There are also questions about the ancestry of John's mother, Laura Plutina (nee
EDWARDS) EDWARDS CARRICO. I have not ironed those out, either.
