I believe the information about Mary Burch, the widdow, marrying Mr. Carrico in 1862 may be incorrect. According to the 1870 census Mary Queen-Clements-Burch was living with her son, Bassel Clements.

Roy,
Just to add a few more calculations of age to all of this............
The Peter Carrico JR who sold Maidstone to Peter Carrico SR in 1764 could
have been as young as 21 in 1764, placing his birth in or before 1743. Of
course, he could have been born much earlier.
The deed does not give us details of 'How" he came to own Maidstone, but
that he "possessed" an "Indefeasible Estate of Inheritances In fee simple".
Is this a clue that the Peter Carrico who married Ann Gates was then
deceased?

Linda,
If Peter Carrico and Ann Gates had not married by Nov 1821, then they
probably weren't the parents of Peter Carrico born c1722. Also, Ann would
have been 31 in 1821 and still unmarried?

I'm looking for information on John W. Carrico, 1819 in Virginia, died by 1870 in possibly Shenandoah Co. His wife was Emily Ball, born between 1820-25. They had a son Silas Ball Carrico who married Dora Frances Shaver.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Just curious if anyone from the list is planning on attending the Fancy Farm
KY picnic 8/4/07. This will be my first :-)
http://www.fancyfarm.net/index.html
My parents & uncle/aunt & I are planning on attending, now have reservations
in Paducah KY 8/3-8/5.
Would love to meet up with others.
Linda Boorom
Dan,
I can't say if her father was a David, but who ever he was likely was a
contempory of Vincent Carrico, not a son of.
The 1850 census for Walter Miles may not be accurate with ages, but it lists
Walter age 63 b. MD, Mary age 50 b. KY, Mary age 9 b. MO & Sarah age 6 b.
MO.
1830 & 1840 census indicate both Walter & Mary were born 1790-1800. I
thought at first that the Mary listed with Walter in 1850 must be a 2nd
wife, as surely she was older than 13 when she married. But, as yet, I can't
find another marriage for Walter. Mary's age in 1850 has to be an error.
Searching for Mary listed as age 9 in 1850, appears she was actually born in
1837. Her death cert. (as Mary King) in Perry Co. MO lists that as her birth
Walter as her father, but mother unknown. It appears her 1st husband was
Anthony Huffman/Hoffman. (Interesting too, Sarah Miles age 19 is living with
the Huffman/Hoffman household in 1860). In 1880 Mary Hoffman listed both
parents born in MD.
Basil Hagan is not listed in the "Second Census of Kentucky 1800" by G. Glen
Crift, but a Basil Hagan is listed in 1800 Port Tobacco, Charles Co., MD
with:
males: 1 over 45; 1 26/45; 3 0/10
females: 1 26/44; 4 0/10.
In 1810 he is in Bardstown, Nelson Co., KY with:
males 1 26/44; 1 16/25; 2 10/15; 1 0/10
females: 1 26/44; 2 16/25; 2 10/15; 4 0/10
Can't find a marriage record for Basil Hagan, have seen some information
that he may have married more than once, but it doesn't seem like anyone is
sure of which Basil Hagan, or if there was more than one in Nelson Co.
I seems likely to me that his marriage to a widow Carrico may have occured
in MD, & I find Charles Co., marriages almost non existant where it comes to
published records or anything that can be found online.
If anyone has found something, I'd love to know.
But to sum up what little info. I've been able to dig up thus far, it
appears to me that Mary Carrico's father was likely born in the 1770's or
even earlier. But, you've probably looked at this closer than I & have
information I do not at this point. But, instead of a "can of worms" I think
this is a "can of clues" that with some digging, my turn up some answers.
Just my thoughts,
Linda

Can't answer all of that, what little we have on David is as follows. We do
not think Mrs. Kaiser is correct if she means that David was a son of Vincent
Carrico. We feel that Daniel Carrico was the son of Vincent Carrico and we
have a family line from him. We really don't know where this David fits.

Hi, Pete:
Yes, of course. The cedillo is still used in Portuguese which distinguishes it from the other Romance languages that have dropped it, e.g., Spanish and Italian.

Tim,
You may agree that one spelling of the name that is
probably true to original includes the cedilla on the
second "c", spelled "Carriço", and that c with the
cedilla (ç) is pronounced like "ss" as in "kiss",
hence the variant Carrisso or similar sounding
Carrizo. In the English speaking colonies, the cedilla
would have been dropped for the spelling Carrico.
The town Carriço north-west in the province of Leiria
in Portugal is 39 degrees 59 minutes North, 8 degrees
48 minutes West.
