Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
My 4th great grandfather Jared/Jaret/Gerard Keith (wife Elenor Lusby) had a
sister Johanna Keith who married a James T. Carrico probably mid 1780s.
Does any one have this line?

I'm a bit familiar with administration of a rootsweb list, so when
Andrew at
rootsweb posted twice recently looking for the administrator of the
Carrico
list to contact him, I knew something was amiss. I'm not sure who the
admin
was, but whomever has apparently changed e-mail address's or something &
mail was probably bouncing back to rootsweb.
I wrote Andrew & told him if the list appeared abandoned I would be
willing
to step in. Welllll..........
A message arrived yesterday from rootsweb welcoming me as the
Administrator
for the Carrico list! So, I guess here I am. Don't expect any changes,
unless ya'll get too rowdy. :-) Actually, I wish you all would!!
Actually, I'm just here so the bounced mail for bad addresses will
bounce
back to me to handle or if any other questions or problems should arise.
Meanwhile, my name is Linda Boorom, my grandmother's maiden name was

hasn't
been any help getting beyond Alexander. So, still searching for answers
like
most of you.

Descent of Alfred Carrico:1 Peter CARRICO b: ABT 1653 Portugal or France

2 Abel CARRICO , Sr. b: ABT 1705 Charles County MD d: ABT 1790

3 William CARRICO b: ABT 1767 MD d: 23 OCT 1857

4 William CARRICO b: ABT 1794
+ Martha STEPHENSON b: ABT 1797 Married: 21 JAN 1813 in Rowan County, North Carolina
5 Alfred CARRICO b: 1818, Virginia
+Matilda Allen b: 1824 Indiana Married: 9 Apr 1841 in Knox, Illinois, probably died in Poweshiek County, Iowa after 1880.
Alfred's brother, John Carrico, married Matilda's sister Nancy in Knox, County, Illinois. Henry County is adjacent to Knox County.
A. Carico, wife Matilda, sons William and John and daughter Mary are shown in the 1870 US Federal Census as living in Galva, Henry County, Illinois. A. Carico is a domestic servant, and so is William. Daughters Margaret and Martha are already married and living with their husbands, William Downing and Henry Kelsey.
The widow, "Matilad" Carica, and sons William and John are shown in the 1880 US Federal Census in Poweshiek County, Iowa, as are your Downey relatives.
Peter and Allie Kane also appear in the Poweshiek County 1880 census. They may, or may not be my relatives. They went to Hand County, South Dakota, and homesteaded there.
William A. Carrico appears to have moved to the Dakota Territory during the 1880 land rush and settled in Marlar township, Jerauld County, South Dakota, where he appears to have married Sarah Adelia Marlar and fathered Olive Pearl and Golda May Carrico, and possibly Weaver Carrico, in the 1890's.
Benjamin Franklin Marlar, born in 1822 in Tennessee was one of the first two settlers in Jerauld County. He didn't seem to have stayed very long, maybe he just homesteaded the land for later resale at a profit, or maybe he just didn't understand his German or Danish, or Swedish neighbors. Jerauld County was mostly settled by immigrants with Nordic heritage.
Dakota Territory births weren't always registered in real time. People born there were able to file their information very much later. Olive Pearl and Golda May seem to have filed their information, but Grace didn't, nor did Weaver.
Information on the South Dakota Birth Index shows that OLive and Golda's father was William "Amazar" Carrico. "Amazar" is not an English name, nor is it a biblical name, in keeping with William A. Carrico's descendancy from a Methodist minister.
"Amasa", or "Amaziah" would be more likely middle names, or even "Alfred", honoring his father make more sense.
William A. Carrico may have been my great grandfather . He appears again in the 1920 US Federal Census as living in Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado with wife Sarah, and daughters Golda May and Alice L. Carrico. Weaver Carrico is also living in Grand Junction with wife Carrie.
William A. Carrico, wife Sarah and Weaver and Carrie Carrico are in the 1930 US Federal Census as living in Ventura, Ventura County, California. William Carrico was a janitor for an oil company. Weaver and Carrie Carrico operated a cafe.
Ventura, California was an oil boom town in the first half of the
20th century.
My grandmother, Grace Ruth Carrico, who married William Glenn Sprague in January 1908 in Madison, Greenwood County, KS in a double wedding ceremony with Pearl Carrico and Ira Hattan, moved to Ventura County, CA, in 1930, apparently to be with her Carrico relatives.
My father moved to Ventura about 1938 and married Leona Mae Sevier (nee Mann) and I was born in 1942. But Grace Ruth Adams (nee Carrico) died in Ventura in 1943, and I never knew her second husband's name until recently.
The mystery that I am trying to unravel is the questionable information on her death certificate which says that her father was William Carrico, but that her mother was Sarah Kane. I think that Sarah Marlar was her mother because Grace was a middle child, and Sarah Marlar seems to be the Sarah mentioned in the US Federal Census of 1920 and 1930.
Sarah's father was Benjamin Franklin Marlar, of Tennessee. His family is shown as living in Butler, Harrison, Missouri in the 1870 and 1880 US Federal Census, and some of his family was in the 1900 Census, still in Missouri.
Benjamin Franklin Marlar and his unmarried son Leander were living in Madison, Greenwood County, KS in 1900, and his son Edwin D. Marlar and family were living in Greenwood in 1920 and 1930. Ed Marlar was originally named "Elcana Delana Marlar", and was once known as "Cain Marlar".
I think that Grace Carrico and Pearl Carrico were living with their grandfather, Benjamin Marlar in 1908. He died in 1908 and they both married in 1908. I think that they were either sisters or half sisters, or maybe cousins?
In the 1920 US Federal Census, Alferd Carrico and his family can be found in Somerset, Gunnison County, Colorado.
Alferd F Carrico 43 1886 of South Dakota, Elsie Carrico 37
Theodore W Carrico 18, Margaret May Carrico 16,
Alferd Marlar Carrico 14,and Robert Orval Carrico 12 lived in Somerset, Gunnison, CO in 1920.
Alferd Carrico may have been the brother of Weaver, Golda May, Golda May, Olive Pearl, Grace Ruth, and Alice L. Carrico, and he may have been the grandson of Benjamin Franklin Marlar and Mary Humphries of Tennessee as well as Alfred Carrico of Virginia and Matilda Allen.
Why see your life's work and interest go to the dump. The editor of the

Historical Sketches of the Parish of St. Bernard of Clairvaux on Casey Creek Clementsville, Kentucky by John A. Lyons 3rd edition 1990 (1st edition 1953)
Submitters note: Much of the information on Alexander Carrico repeats the errors published in “The Carrico Family” by Homer Edwin Carrico. Alexander was born 1775-1780, not 1749 or 50, it doesn’t appear, nor is there any proof he was a son of Peter of Md, nor did he twice. The Alexander who married a Foster of MA, was s/o Thomas Carrico & Jane McCant who was born in Stafford Co. (now King George Co.) VA in 1747. The following Alexander’s wife Mary Sedgwick was of Montgomery Co., MD whom he married there in 1800, not in VA
As Homer only listed 8 children for Alexander & Mary, this article also misses daughter Elizabeth Carrico who married Felix Miles as proven by the probate of Alexis Carrico Martin Co IN in 1869. Also note that recent research indicates the birth order & their estimated date of birth as listed below may not be accurate.
With this in mind, the following appears in the above book:
Pages 184-185
ALEXANDER CARRICO, (b. 1749 or 50), settled in St. Bernard’s parish in 1823. He was a son of Peter Carrico of Maryland, and was twice married. His first wife was Mary Sedgwick of Virginia. They moved to Washington Co., and then to Casey Co. Apparently none of the children of the first marriage accompanied them to the settlement on Casey creek. The children of the second marriage were: (A) Nancy, (B) Mary Ann, ( C) John, (D), Agnes, (E) Henry C., (F) Alice, (G) Alexander, & (H) James.
(A) Nancy, (b. 1791), daughter of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick moved to Indiana. Unmarried.
(B) Mary Ann, (b. ?), daughter of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick, married William Wethington, (of Matth. -Rich.), in 1835.
( C) John, (b. 1804), son of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick, married Susan Wethington. Their children were: Elizabeth Ann, (b. 1831); Mary Ann, (b. 1833); Martha Catherine, (b. 1835; Richard Franklin, (b. 1838); Teresa Ellen, (b. 1839); John Alexander, (b. 1841); Joseph Vincent, (b. 1843); Philip Henry, (b. 1846); & William Isaac (b. 1849).
The John Carrico family left St. Bernard’s before the Civil War.
(D) Agnes Henrietta, (b. 1806), daughter of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick, married an Apple. After the birth of their daughter Louvinia in 1839, they moved to Indiana.
(E) Henry C., (b. 1808), son of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick, married (1st) Nancy Ann Wethington, (of Wm.), * (2nd) Mrs. Rebecca Worthington), of Daviess Co., Ky.).
The children of the first marriage were: James Buford, (b. 1830), who married Mary Lanham; William Alexander, (b. 1832), who married Martha Brewster (or Brewer), & was the father of Mother Mary Paul, O.S.F., of Clinton, Ia.; Frank Marion, (b. 1835), who married a Willett, & was the father of Sister Augustine, O.S.F., of Clinton, Ia; Joseph Raphael, (b. 1836; d. 1839); John Thomas, (b. 1840), who married Alice Goodwin; Benjamin H., (b. 1843), who married in Daviess Co., Ky.; Henry Aden, (b. 1845), who married Laura L. Prottsman; Martin John, (b. 1847), who married a Morrison; Mary Ellen, (b. 1850), who married a Howard; & Nancy (b. 1852), who married James Snyder. The Henry C. family moved to Daviess Co., Ky. before the Civil War.
Following the death of his wife Nancy Ann, Henry C. Carrico married Mrs. Rebecca Worthington, who was possibly a descendant of early settlers of St. Bernard’s. His death took place in 1890 at Rome, Daviess Co., Ky.
(F) Alice, (b. 1810), daughter of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick, married a Frederick.
(G) Alexander, (b. 1812), son of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick. Unmarried.
(H) James, (b. 1814), son of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick, married Mary Wethington. Their children were: Jane A. (b. 1836); Parthena J., (b. 1838); Pius Matthias, (b. 1840); David, (b. 1843); Mary Ann (b. 1847); Silas Alexander, (b. 1848); Susan, (b. 1853); John J. (b. 1855); James T. (b. 1858); & Martha, (b. 1860). After the birth of Martha, the family moved from Casey Co. It is said that James Carrico died in St. Paul, Kansas.
According to an article, “The Carrico Family”’ by homer Edwin Carrico of Dallas, Texas, which appeared in the Filson Club Quarterly, July 1951, Vol. 25, No. 3, Alexander Carrico, husband of Mary Sedgwick, was a soldier in the American Revolution. After leaving Casey Co., he resided for a time in Daviess Co., KY., and later removed to Poplar Bluff, Mo., and from there moved to Indiana, where he died about 1840.
OTHER CARRICOS
GEORGE B. CARRICO, son of Levi Carrico (of Thos. Ign.-Peter), & Harriet Neal, married Malinda allen in 1834. We have records of two of their children: Sarah Harriet, who married a Scott; & Martin Spalding, (b. 1840).
JAMES LEVI CARRICO, (b. 1819), son of Joseph Carrico, (of Thos. Ign.-Peter) & Amelia Butler, married Mary Strange in Casey Co., in 1847
ELIZABETH CARRICO, probably a daughter of William Carrico, (of Barth.-Peter), married Felix Miles.

This pretty much agrees with the children of Alexander Carrico & Mary Sedgwick listed by Homer Edwin Carrico in his "The Carrico Family" published 1951 in The Filson Club Quarterly.
Homer, however, only listed 8 children, he didn't list Elizabeth Carrico who married Felix Miles before 1830 in Casey Co., KY. The Wetherington/Wethington's were descendants of Mary Ann Carrico who had married William Alexander Wethington, but died before the 1850 census.
Lavina "Apple's" parents were Henry & Harriet (Carrico) Abel who resided next door to John A. (Alexander) Carrico in 1850 Martin Co., IN.
I can find no record of Alice marrying a Frederick, she appears to be unmarried & still with her parents in 1850, unless she was then a widow & the census taker listed her name wrong. Although I can' seem to locate her after 1850, she appears to still be alive in 1871.
Still a lot to uncover on this family.

The following transcription was sent to me by Winona Walters whom, if I remember correctly descends from both Alexander's son John Carrico b. ca 1804 MD through his granddaughter Susan Fields and also through John's 2nd wife Mary Ellen Queen through her son Thomas Edward Burch from her 1st marriage. I'm relying on memory due to loss of my database in Dec.
It was in the 1970's or 1980's that she found this will in the basement of the old courthouse in Martin Co., IN. At the time, she did not have access to a copying machine, but had a tape recorder with her & read the will into the recorder to later transcribe. As I understand, the old courthouse has recently been sold to the Martin Co. Historical Society who will try to go through the boxes in the basement, not only to preserve them, but make them available to the public. Once this is complete, & I am able to obtain copies of this will & any other probate records, I will post corrections/additions at that time.
The following is what Winona transcribed. She has given me permission to share this with you. More comments to follow.
LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOHN A. CARRICO
I, John A. Carrico, of Brown Township of Martin Co., State of Indiana, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.
First, I direct that my body be decently interred and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate in life and as to such estate, as it has pleased God to entrust me with, I dispose of the same in the following manner to-wit:
That my funeral expenses and my just debts be paid as soon as money comes to the hands of the executors from any portion of the estate, for the love that I have for my daughter, Anna A. Carrico, to have all my personal estate, such as cattle and hogs, and horses, sheep, household and kitchen furniture
and money on hand and 38 acres of land for which I have made a Deed in fee simple as anheir, tooo-wit: The nwc of the NWQ of Sec., 20, in 74 N of Range SW, with the exception of 2 acres for the use of Chapel for which I have made a deed in fee simple to the Catholic Church and also that Anna Carrico
be my executrix of my last will and Testament in witness whereof John A. Carrico that testator has herewith set my hand and seal this 27th day of Dec., A.D., 1833, Signed, John A. Carrico.

Recorded 1836 or 1856, couldn't read.
Winona states she couldn't read the date of probate, but John A. AKA Alexander Carrico was residing in Martin Co., IN coming from Casey Co., KY. On Oct. 1 1852 he obtained a patent for 40 acres in the NW quarter of Sec. 20 in Martin Co., IN. This is the same land mentioned in his will, and therefore the date of the will would read 1853 & probate 1856, since he did not live in Martin Co., IN as early as 1833 & was still alive in 1850.
His daughter Anna, the only child named in his will, was also known as Nancy. She was the eldest child, born ca 1800. Never married. Following her father's death, she resided in 1860 with her unmarried brother Alexis. Following his death in 1869, she is found with her brother Henry C. Carrico in Daviess Co., KY, & by 1880 back in Martin Co., IN with her widowed sister Elizabeth Miles. I don't know when or where she died, many of the Martin Co. ancestors of Alexander & Mary moved to IL following the 1880 census. Her death doesn't appear in the published death records for IN.
