Hello List,
Final results (Markers 26-37) have returned for Member #119235, the Haplogroup
L2a descendant of Joseph CARACO of Bursa, Turkey. He is a 33/37 match with
#94500, the descendant of Albert CARACO of Bursa, Turkey:

33/37 is not as close a match as, for example, the American CARRICOs, who are
matching at levels of 36/37 or 37/37. The FTDNATip Report shows that the two
CARACOs have a 95% probability of having a common ancestor within 18
generations. Compare this to the American CARACOs, who have a 95% probability
of having a common ancestor within 10 generations.
Upgrading to 67 markers would give the CARACOs a more precise answer, as it has
done with the American CARRICOs. Using 67 markers, the 95% probability of a
common ancestor for the American CARRICOs drops from within 10 generations to
within 8 generations, which is consistent with their distance on paper.
Eighteen generations takes us back to the 1400s, just before the adoption of
surnames for most western Europeans. I haven't a clue when surname adoption
began for this culture, but obviously it was quite early. Compare this to the
Danes, who were among the last in Europe to adopt surnames, when mandated ca.
the 1850s. My family has been surnamed MATTHIESEN for only five generations!
