You are correct, Chris. Testing more markers will tell you more about your
relationships. In fact, and I haven't broached the subject recently, but there
are more markers beyond the standard 67.
The J2a2 CARRICOs, that is, the descendants of Peter CARRICO, 1674 immigrant to
Maryland, are matching at extremely high levels. All match the modal haplotype
for the family at 66/67 or better, and none matches each other at less than
65/67. We are hard pressed to get enough mutations to build a *detailed* DNA
descendant tree from Peter. But there are 40 more markers we can test from
among the "Advanced" markers available at FTDNA. In fact, one of our members
has taken one of them while another has taken all but one of them:

The DYS720 test is new since #86809 was tested. (Hint to #86809: you may want
to add this one.) DYS720 is turning out to be a "high frequency mutator," so
is
useful for genealogical purposes:

The other high frequency mutators are the markers in the "Palindromic Pack"
(DNA-FP Panel 5).
Of course, I would love it if everyone would "max out" their markers as #86809
did, but short of that, I would like to urge as many of you as possible at least
order DYS720 and the Palindromic Pack. They are the most variable of the
advanced markers.
In a way, it's our bad luck that we are so genetically uniform on the Standard
Markers. On the other hand, it's not a brick wall because we do have the
Advanced Markers.

Good morning, Don,
I, for one, would like to see if you and I match on all 67 markers.
You and I both can trace our lines back to an ancestor named
Cornelius
from Washington Co., KY.
Although we know they are different individuals, the circumstantial
evidence suggests a very close relationship between them.
I may be mistaken, but testing to all 67 markers may allow us
to either
rule out or keep alive that possibility, if not confirm it outright.
If, on the other hand, you match one of the other
individuals, it could
present strong enough evidence to allow you to trace your
ancestry back even further.
I say "stimulate" the economy, and go for the 67.
Yours,
Chris
