Hello List,
I have mentioned a number of times that we CARRICOs are matching at very high
levels, which is to say we don't have a lot of mutations to separate us, which
means we don't have a lot of mutations to identify individual lines.
Consequently, I have urged members to take advanced tests.
I have also mentioned before a new, rather variable marker, DYS710 (in "Y-STR
Panel 1" under "Advanced Orders" at your member page). Variable is what
we
want, because we want to find mutations. The cost is $14. One member, #86809,
has already ordered the marker and his result is pending.
The first time you order an advanced marker, there is a charge of $9.50
(basically, to move part of your sample from the lab at the University of
Arizona in Tucson, where the standard tests is done, to the lab in Houston,
where the advanced testing is done). This transfer fee is charged only once;
from then on you can order advanced tests without paying it again.
I am hereby offering to have the project pay this transfer fee for you if you
will test DYS710. Logistically, the easiest way to do this is for you to order
the marker using the "invoice" method of payment. When I get the email
notification of the purchase, which the server sends me immediately and
automatically, I will email billing in FTDNA telling them to pay $9.50 of it
from the CARRICO General Fund. When your invoice/bill arrives in the mail, it
will be for just the $14, which you can pay by check or credit card.
I can't promise we won't all have the same value at this marker, but we won't
know unless we test it.
If we want to be certain of finding some differences between us, the thing to
test is the Palindromic Pack (DNA-FP Panel 5). These are the most variable STR
markers known on the Y-chromosome. And your transfer fee will have already been
paid. ;-)

P.S. I'm pleased to announced that #122177 has just purchased an upgrade to 67
markers. That will leave only #136280, the CARRICO turned BLAINE, and the
deceased CARRICO at 12 markers.
