Hello List,
I need to recant my last message (backquoted below). I have since found out
that the J2 project, accessible from either of two links (same project, two web
sites):
http://www.j2-ydnaproject.org/intro.html
or
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/J2%20Y%20DNA%20group/index.aspx
is a "closed" project. That is, they do not publicly display or share data.
In
my person opinion, I find closed sites to be contrary to my view of how
genealogy or, especially, genealogy-by-DNA ought to be done. Your opinion may
differ and, certainly, it's your prerogative which projects you join, and
there's no harm in joining several. However, the project I *do* recommend is
the Y-DNA-J project at FTDNA:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Y-DNA_J/
which is an "open" project, for both J1 and J2. You can join using the blue
Join icon on your member page or use the link at the Y-DNA-J web site, once you
have at least your initial results returned. One of our members (N9852) has
already joined (thank you!).
I have also been in communication with one of the Y-DNA-J project admins, Bonnie
Schrack. I have known Bonnie, for years, to be one of the most knowledgeable,
helpful subscribers to the GENEALOGY-DNA mailing list. I wouldn't hesitate to
put my data in her competant, dedicated hands. Bonnie is very excited about the
prospect of our CARRICO members, especially the ones who are testing to 67
markers, also joining the Y-DNA-J project, primarily because they have such a
rare and unusual haplotype. If any of you can see your way clear to getting
deep SNP tested, that would also be very desirable information.
I recommend visiting the site to read about the project.
Diana

Subject: [CARRICO-DNA] Haplogroup J2 Project
Hello List,
The CARRICOs tested, so far, are Haplogroup J2. I would like to suggest that
these members also join the Haplogroup J2 Project. (Once you have results
returned, you can join additional projects by using the blue Join button on
your
member page at FTDNA.) I also recommend visiting the J2 Project web
site, to
learn more about this subclade.
http://www.j2-ydnaproject.org/intro.html
By joining the J2 project, you will be contributing to the knowledge base of
your haplogroup, which will ultimately tell you more about your
paleoanthroplogical origins, as opposed to proving your more recent genealogy,
which is the purpose of the CARRICO Surname Project.
