Hello,
I would like to ask a question. What does "NPE" mean? I too trace my
lineage through Charles.

Subject: [CARRICO-DNA] First Results for #132113,desc/o Chas CARRICO of
Sullivan Co IN
Hello List,
We have first results returned for #132113, the descendant of Charles
CARRICO of
Sullivan Co., IN. Actually, nearly all of his results have returned
(viz.,
Markers 1-25 and Markers 38-67), the only panel remaining is the one that
usually seems to be last, Markers 26-37 (expected 12/19).
His results came as an unpleasant surprise, because he is not Haplogroup
J2a1b,
as are the tested descendants of Peter CARRICO, 1674 immigrant to
Maryland. He
is Haplogroup R1b1b2:

There is reason to believe no other CARRICO immigrant came to the U.S.
before
the 20th Century, so it appears he has an NPE in his lineage. This comes
as a
blow, not just to him, but to me, because I descend from Charles CARRICO's
sister, Catherine CARRICO.
There is still some hope for me because the NPE may have occurred further
down
the line for #132113. If it came further up the line, this test result
has
consequences for everyone descended from Charles and his brother, Josiah
CARRICO, and possible others, depending how far up his line the NPE
occurred.
We can determine the location by testing cousins.
The first choice would be to test a patrilineal descendant of Charles's
brother,
Josiah CARRICO (1769-1820s), of MD, KY, then Green Co., IN. If that
individual
matches Charles, we know the NPE occurred up the line; if he matches the
descendants of Peter, we know the NPE occurred between Charles and
#132113; if
he matches neither, we have another NPE on our hands.
Normally, you find me urging people to test 67 markers, and that is always
my
preference. In this case, we only *need* to test 12 markers to determine
whether the testee matches #132113 or the descendants of Peter. If funds
are
limited, it would be better to spend the money testing more individuals,
rather
than testing a few individuals deeply. On the other hand, the holiday
special
prices are in effect (until 31 Dec 08); this is a good opportunity to get
37 or
67 markers at a $30 discount.
