It turns out Pherrel is Farrell, and once I started searching on "Farrell
LITTLETON," I picked up some information that will at least be a consolation to
those with the LITTLETON NPE.
It turns out, Farrell LITTLETON was Overseer to John Augustine WASHINGTON,
brother of Pres. George WASHINGTON. Now, an overseer can be seen as a
plantation manager, but in the South, that mainly meant he was the slave
manager. Still, he was working for some mighty high-powered land owners,
although none of them would have known it at the time. This was the 1760's, and
Farrell apparently died just before the Revolution began (it is said a tree fell
on him and killed him), and well before George became President.
I've created a family group sheet for Farrell, including what I have so far:

Subject: [CARRICO-DNA] Pherrel / Pherril must be Farrell
It just dawned on me that Pherrel/Pherril must be a phonetic
misspelling of the
English given name Farrell. This would be in keeping with
the fact that
LITTLETON is an English surname.
