My abject apologies. I had intended this response to go privately to Linda.
I'm "on the road" using a new laptop (with a new email client), which I
just
bought and am still learning to use. Sorry.

Linda,
My insistence that discussions of non-DNA-related CARRICO genealogy be kept
on the CARRICO list is largely in deference to you. In starting the CARRICO
DNA project and the CARRICO-DNA mailing list, it has not been my intention
or desire to compete with your CARRICO web site or CARRICO mailing list, so
I'm trying to limit discussion on the CARRICO-DNA list to DNA matters. It
is also confusing to start the same thread on the two lists as I suspect all
subscribers to CARRICO-DNA also subscribe to CARRICO.

Subject: [CARRICO-DNA] James Carrico b. 1696/97
While I understand that Diana doesn't want the Carrico-DNA list to become a
discussion regarding
topic's better suited for the Carrico list, I feel strongly that this topic
is appropriate for both
lists. The DNA has to also involve discussion of the "paper trail".
Did James Carrico b. 1696/97 leave male descendants?
I think there is certainly a "paper trail" or evidence which strongly
indicates that he did.
I have not as yet obtained a copy of this actual document as yet, BUT, if
the transcription is as
transcribed, it is the earliest indication that James had sons.
At some point I would like to try to obtain copies of whatever "tax lists"
are available, but for
now we'll go with the avail. transcription:
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/md/charles/taxlists/ch1758txd.txt
TU 45 1 Carico John 1 "son of James"
25 years later, we have the "1783 Assessment" in Maryland for Charles Co. I
do have copies of these
documents from the Maryland Archives which I can send to anyone interested.
I have included a
transcription on my website
http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~boorom/carrico/census1783.html
Note in 1783 in relation to this topic:
"James of James" had 7 white inhabitants
"Joseph of James" had 6 white inhabitants
Neither James nor Joseph could have be descendants of "James of Peter" (also
listed with 9 white
inhabitants). His will did not mention a son Joseph, nor is there any
indication/suggestion that he
was married & having children previous to 1755.
Both James & Joseph were at least 18 years of age & by the number of
inhabitants in their
households, married for "at least" 10 years give or take a few, but likely
longer. A rough
estimation of James & Joseph's birth's (18 + 10 = 28- 1783) suggests they
were both born before 1755
(at least).
Are James & Joseph are sons of James b. 1696/97?
Or did Able have a son James who was bearing children previous to ca. 1755??
The 1758 tax list
doesn't even list Able. Where was he?
