Diana,
I suppose I don't definitive proof that John "Maxwell" is the son of Reason.
Here is my thinking:
1. In a letter from Marjorie Hemholz (16 Jan 1980) she said: "I believe your
best bet is Basil as I have only found the name Reason Carrico in his
descendants."
2. In the1830 Census of Sullivan County, Indiana for Reason Carrico there
are 2 young sons. 1830 - 1 male aged 5-10, 1 male aged 10-15. No one that
I am aware of has identified either of these boys, and I think the older one
is John Maxwell.
3. John Maxwell named his oldest son John Reason.
4. Great-grandma Pearl (her mother was Permelia Carrico) thought that
Maxwell's father was Basil. That isn't true, but I do think it is
indicative that Basil was a forebear.
5. Maxwell left Indiana before 1850 and travelled to Missouri and Kansas
with his wife's people. Therefore he was "lost" to his own family.
6. Donna Alumbaugh has a huge book tracing the Alumbaugh family. She lists
Maxwell as a son of Reason.
7. Wanda Boes of Sullivan County, Indiana constructed a chart showing
Carrico lineage. She listed these children for Reason: William (no info);
Bassel; John (no info); Maxwell (no info); Josiah; Elizabeth; Eliza; Mary. -
I think that the John and Maxwell are one person.
In answer to your question, yes I think my John Maxwell is your son A. I've
made trips to Sullivan County, and I've been researching the family for
almost 30 years. It's frustrating to not find a definite link. But I'm
satisfied that the lineage is correct even if I can't absolutely prove it.
As I look at the male descendants in my line of the Carricos I don't have
any "hot" leads for you in regards to DNA. We really are long on females
rather than males. However, I will try to see if I can expand what I know
of lines related to Permelia.
Good to be in contact with you. I live near St. Louis, in Glen Carbon,
Illinois. It's a fairly central location for making research trips.
Jeanne

Hello Jeanne,
I, too, descend from Basil, through Reason's sister, Catherine (CARRICO)
TRIMBLE. In fact, one of the subsidies I'm offering is to a proven
descendant
of Basil's.
How were you able to connect John Maxwell to Reason? Is he the "Son A" I
show
on Reason's page?
