Hello List,
The analysis of the BigY results for CARRICO #143924 - a descendant of Charles
CARRICO of Sullivan Co., IN, who is presumably a descendant of Peter CARRICO,
the immigrant - has returned from YFull. He is #YF03978 on the J2 part of the
YFull tree (has "new" next to #):

Given that we have such an unusual STR haplotype, I was expecting something
unusual in our SNP haplogroup, and my expectations were realized though not in a
manner I had anticipated.
After all the expense of this testing, we are still designated J-M67! They were
unable to place us in any existing subclade of J-M67 (old J2a4b). This is not
the result we were seeking, which was to be placed in a downstream subclade with
a localized geographic origin. On the other hand, being in a "class by
ourselves" (so far) is going to attract the interest of Haplogroup J-M67
researchers, and that's to our benefit.
We are probably going to end up being placed in our own subclade, parallel to
the other first-level subclades of J-M67. As best I understand at this point,
this result means we are the remnant of an ancient clade, one that may have
branched off from J-M67 as long as 10 or 12 thousand years ago. How's that for
exclusive?!
I have just joined #143924/YF03978 to the J2a Group at YFull. This group is run
by several individuals, among them the admins from the Haplogroup J2-M67 Project
at FamilyTreeDNA. The group is private, so you won't be able to read the
discussion on the web, but I'll keep you posted regarding what they have to say
about our result.
CARRICO #145426 - a descendant of Matthew Gillaspie CARRICO, also a presumed
descendant of Peter CARRICO - has also been BigY tested and is also undergoing
analysis by YFull.
