Hello List,
Member #86809 (the one whose 67 STR markers just returned) has now ordered deep
SNP testing, including testing of the DYF371X palindromic set. This now makes
two members who have these tests pending (the other is #62917).
In theory, all individuals having full or near matching results of their STR
testing (the 67 markers) should turn out to be the same haplogroup subclade,
that is, they should have the same SNP mutations and, thus, the same SNP test
results. Still, it's beneficial that we have two members undergoing these
tests, as a double check that the results are correct. Not that the labs
typically make errors, but only that, because our STR test results are so very
unusual, it's important that we know for certain the SNP test results are
correct.
Once these SNP test results return (and assuming they match), there's no great
need for anyone else to bear the expense of SNP testing, so everyone in the
project -- and everyone interested in CARRICO origins -- owes a special thanks
to these members.
Of course, if money is no object, it never hurts to have more proof, but it
would really be more beneficial to invest in bringing additional cousins into
the project for STR testing, rather than having more existing members undergo
SNP testing. That said...
If the results of these SNP tests raise more questions and, thus, call for more
SNP testing, I think the rest of us should kick in and share the expense. If
each of us donated at least ten dollars to the project's General Fund, it could
cover the cost for testing these individuals. Hopefully, though, more testing
won't be needed.
My thanks to #86809 and #62917 for their enthusiastic support of the CARRICO
project!
Diana
