It is still active. This is where the Scots Carricks undoubtedly came from.
Enjoy.

Promoting tourism and business in Carrick
A collection of pages about this beautiful part of Ayrshire in south-west
Scotland which provide information on where to stay and how to make the
most of your visit.
********************
Things have improved considerably since Sir William Brereton's journey
through Carrick in 1635!
He described it thus:
"...We spent the day travelling, and were horribly thirsty and
hungry; the horses suffered too. We rode for forty miles
without finding a decent place to stay, stopping at a very poor
house - poorer than the worst I've seen before - where we were
offered oatcakes, two eggs and dried buttered fish for our
meal. This day, as many days before, I drank only water. My
companion, and some of the horses, almost collapsed from hunger
and thirst."
(put into modern English - from notes by Debbie Camp, Culzean 1989)
Rest assured that you will find Carrick and it's inhabitants a much more
enjoyable experience today!
