Hello again Susan -
Samuel Carrick was the first pastor of Lebanon Church between Goshen and Craigsville, VA,
from 1784-1787. It may be that originally the church was called Wahab, probably for a
German named Joseph Vachub. Samuel also served as pastor of the nearby Rocky Spring
Church near the present town of Deerfield. It may be that you can learn more about Samuel
from a book by Dr. Howard McK. Wilson, "The Lexington Presbytery Heritage,"
published by the McClure Press of Verona, VA.
Since Carricks are found in Scotland, Ireland, and England, have you determined where
Samuel's family came from? I know that a great many Scots migrated from Pennsylvania
and settled in the Shenandoah Valley.
Growing up in southeastern Michigan where I never encountered another Carrick family,
it's been fun over the past several years to meet, through the Internet and even
occasionally in person, lots of other Carricks.
I hope your search is going well!
Warm regards from one Carrick to another,
Helen
