Thanks, Stewart. I'm on the phone reading this. I'll compare it with what I
have and get back with you. I just found out yesterday that TWC took away
all the old Road Runner sites without notice. When I find a new home for it
I'll post a link.

It has been my experience that when there is no reasonable evidence to
support a genealogical claim (which appears to be true about the marriage
of
Moses Carrick Sr.), and when there is also a simple and plausible
explanation about how that claim may have arisen as an error (as is
certainly the case here), then the claim is almost always an error. I
would
welcome any good evidence about the name of the wife of Moses Carrick Sr.,
regardless of what her name turns out to be, but I have seen far too many
cases where a careless genealogist attaches a wife to the wrong individual
(followed by many others copying the mistake) that it is hard for me to
believe that this case is any different.
Below I have given a preliminary outline of my own research on the first
couple of generations of this Carrick family, taken from original records
with Internet data used only as a finding aid, dates preceded by "say"
being
my own educated guesses which are not directly supported by any evidence.
I
have many more details and documentation, but not yet in a form I am
willing
to make public.
The Carrick Family (VERY preliminary outline)
1. John Carrick, of Carroll's Delight, in Hamiltonban township, Adams
County, Pennsylvania, born 1712 [assuming that his age of "within a few
weeks of 100 years" given in a newspaper obituary is correct], died 17
February 1812, married a woman whose name is unknown [called "Polly" in
some
sources giving no evidence].
Children of John Carrick:
+2. John Carrick, b. say 1736, m. Margaret _____.
3. Jane Carrick, b. ca. 1738, m. David Waugh.
+4. James Carrick, b. ca. 1744, m. Mary _____.
+5. Moses Carrick, b. say 1748, m. _____.
6. Nancy Carrick, b. ca. 1752, m. James Kerr.
+7. Samuel Carrick, b. 17 July 1760, m. (1) Elizabeth Moore, (2) Annis
McClelland.
2. John Carrick, born say 1736, died 1820, married, perhaps as his second
wife, Margaret _____, born before 1755, living 1820, whose maiden name is
unknown. John Carrick appears on the tax list of Cumberland County,
Pennsylvania in 1778 and 1782, on the tax lists of Rockbridge County,
Virginia from 1783 to 1790, lived in Pendleton District, South Carolina
from
the early 1790's until about 1809, and in Caldwell County, Kentucky from
1810 to 1820, where his will was proved.
Children of John Carrick, perhaps by an earlier wife:
8. Samuel Carrick, living 31 Dec. 1817, probably the same man as:
Samuel Carrick, b. ca. 1768, d. 13 Feb. 1828, m. Mary McMath.
9. James Carrick, b. say 1771, d. betw. 1810 & 1812, m. Margaret _____.
[Large gap in probable birthdates of children suggests an earlier
marriage.]
Children of John and Margaret Carrick:
10. John Carrick, b. ca. 1782, living 1860, m. Ruth ____.
11. Stephenson Carrick, ca. 1784, d. 20 Sep. 1856, m. Lillis Mayes.
12. Polly [not Dolly] Carrick, b. say 1790?, m. _____ Brice [not Price].
4. James Carrick, born about 1744, died August 1820, aged 76, buried in
Beech Spring Graveyard, Harrison County, Ohio, married in Adams County,
Pennsylvania, 1775, Mary _____ [maiden name given as "Stewart" in some
sources giving no evidence], born about 1759, died 31 October 1833, aged
74,
buried in Beech Spring Graveyard. James Carrick moved from Adams County,
Pennsylvania to Short Creek township, Harrison County, Ohio about 1811.
Children of James and Mary Carrick:
13. John Carrick, b. 15 or 16 Nov. 1779, d. 1 Feb. 1854.
14. David Carrick, b. 1 April 1782, d. 25 Dec. 1863, m. Elizabeth _____.
15. Polly Carrick, living 1812.
16. Martha Carrick, living 1852.
17. Nancy Carrick, b. ca. 1794, living 1850, m. Samuel Parr.
18. Lovina Jane Carrick, b. ca. 1797?, living 1860, m. 1822 James Andrews.
19. James W. Carrick, b. ca. 1800, living 1880, m. Sarah _____.
20. Margaret Carrick, b. ca. 1803.
5. Moses Carrick, born say 1748, died near Sparta, White County,
Tennessee
shortly before 17 June 1826, married a woman whose name is unknown [but
probably not Susan Dawson/Lawson], who apparently died before 1820. Moses
Carrick is hard to follow in the records because of his frequent movements.
He was in York County, Pennsylvania in 1777, in Rockbridge County, Virginia
from 1783 to 1787, in Green County, Tennessee during the 1790's, in Barren
County, Kentucky by 1800, in White County, Tennessee by 1809, and in St.
Clair County, Illinois in 1820.
Known Child of Moses Carrick:
21. John Montgomery Carrick, m. Elizabeth Vance.
Probable child of Moses Carrick:
22. Samuel Carrick, m. (1) Jane Elliott, m. (2) Mary McCray.
[I see no good candidate for this Samuel's father other than Moses]
Other unplaced Carricks who seem to be members of this Carrick family, and
might have been children of Moses:
23. Sally L. Carrick, grantee in 1814 White Co., TN deed.
24. George Carrick, witness to deed of Sally L. Carrick.
25. Rebecca Carrick, m. Bath Co., VA, 1799, John Smith.
Another unplaced canididate who was in Green Co., KY in 1830 and might have
been a son of Moses, but perhaps a member of a different Carrick family:
26. James W. Carrick, b. ca. 1792, living 1870, Marshall Co., KY, m. Mary
_____.
7. Rev. Samuel Carrick [supposed middle name of "Czar" is apparently a
mistake], born in York (now Adams) County, Pennsylvania, 17 July 1760, died
17 August 1809, buried at First Presbyterian Cemetery, Knoxville,
Tennessee,
married first, in Rockbridge County, Virginia, 21 September 1779, Elizabeth
Moore, died 24 September 1793, daughter of Robert Moore. Rev. Samuel
Carrick married second, in Knox County, Tennessee, bond 27 January 1794,
Annis (or Anne) McClelland, born between 1770 and 1780, living 1830.
Children of Samuel and Elizabeth (Moore) Carrick:
27. Samuel Davis Carrick, b. ca. 1780, died 8 July 1814.
28. Elizabeth Moore ("Betsy") Carrick, b. say 1781, m. Hugh Lawson White.
29. Addison Carrick, m. Rebecca Gamble.
Children of Samuel and Annis (McClelland) Carrick:
30. John Newton Carrick, b. say 1796.
31. Mary White ("Polly") Carrick, b. 3 July 1798, d. 23 Nov. 1846.
32. William McClellan Carrick.
33. additional child, presumably d. bef. 1805.
