I'm looking for information about my great great grandfather, James Carrick, a Master
Mariner, born Rothesay, Bute c1849, who died somewhere between 1883 (when his son, Walter,
was born) and 1891 (when his wife appears in the census as a widow) whereabouts and
circumstances unknown. He married Elizabeth Berry (daughter of Irish immigrants) in
Liverpool in 1875 and I know plenty about his eventful life, but have no birth or death
record for him. They had two other children: my great grandfather William James, and James
Alexander (a naval man who was killed during WW1).
I'm also looking for information about James' father, William Carrick (born c1810)
a labourer/fisherman. I know he and his wife, Flora (McMillan born c1815 in Kilmallie),
moved around quite a bit during their marriage (Balfron, Lochgilp, various locations in
Glasgow and, Rothesay). They had 4 other children Margaret (whom I have information
about); William (a soldier at one point); Duncan (a mariner whom I know a little about)and
Hugh (who I know very little about). William is believed to have died somewhere between
1851 (when he appeared in the census) and 1855 (when statutory death records - in which he
doesn't appear - began).
