Wow. That's exciting. If it could possibly be true it will be the first
link of this line back to the old world. There were other links from other
lines, but not for the Carrick surname. We were fairly sure they were
Scots-Irish because of information about the property that John Carrick
settled on in PA. It was said to have been sold mostly to Scots-Irish - the
people who "went from Scotland to the north of Ireland with William of Orange."
I will take the liberty of forwarding this to the CARRICK list on Genserv.
I will be happy to forward a GEDCOM to you or anybody else. It's about 4.5
MB unzipped or about 1 MB zipped. Tell me your preference.
For the non-GEDCOM users & can forward the same information as an .rtf file
that can be read & printed with MS WORD or most other modern word
processing packages.

Hello Gil...
Someone came across your Carrick information and forwarded it to me as I am
researching my Cochran line. I believe she also forwarded it to another
person as well. I thought I would contact you and give you information I
have just in case they didn't get in touch with you.
First I want to thank you for doing all the work of tracing the Carrick
Family. I am in the process of tracing the Cochran Family and know how
long, tedious, and difficult it can be....but at the same time, interesting,
exciting, and rewarding.
I am a descendant of Ruth Carrick (#94) on your list. She married Thomas F.
Cochran. They named their son William Carrick Cochran....they also had 4
daughters. Among William's children are Thomas J. Cochran (my line) and
Robert W.
Cochran.... Robert named one of his sons Carrick Cochran who can be found in
the 1930 census in New York. I am currently in the process of tracking down
a living Carrick Cochran that I believe may be related.
I wanted to share with you the following information:
Ruth Carrick was born ca. 1799 and died Oct. 28, 1828
Thomas F. Cochran and Ruth Carrick had four children -
William Carrick Cochran b. Sept. 8, 1819 d. Nov 13, 1895
Mary Ann Cochran b. Jan. 30, 1821
Jane Cochran b. June 23, 1823
Elizabeth Cochran b. May 10, 1825
America Francis Cochran b. Aug. 29, 1827
All the children were born in Fayette County, KY. After Ruth died, we
believe Thomas remarried a cousin Mary Cochran and then went to Indiana
around Indianapolis. When Thomas died in 1836, the children returned at
some point to Fayette and lived with their Uncle Robert Carrick.
Additionally, William Carrick Cochran formed a family association and they
held reunions every few years. From these reunions came the following
information (whether it is true, we do not know, but may be considered in
researching):
"...he a son by the name of Thomas, who married a Miss Ruth Carrick; who
traces her ancestry to Commandant Robert Carrick, who went from Scotland to
the north of Ireland with William of Orange."
...
Thanks!
