You're welcome. I am guessing you are a newcomer to the list. The list is
pretty low volume - there are not lots of Carricks around.
I wanted to make sure that you knew you could search all the old messages on
the listbot server. Just go to www.listbot.com and login with the id and
password you used when you joined the list. You will then have the option of
looking at all the old messages. There have been some pretty interesting
postings from time to time - searches of CDs, returns from some genealogy web
sites, etc.
Second, just ask a question of the list. Give us a brief outline of your
Carrick surname family tree as you know it - maybe something like this
(completely fictitious):
Fred Carrick, b 1850 White Co, Tn, d 1903 Harmon Co. OK
m Judith Holmes, b 1856, d 1905 Harmon Co OK
son Fred Carrick Jr, b 1885 White Co, TN, d 1943 Harmon Co OK
m Amanda Smith, b AR, d 1967 Harmon Co OK
daut. Paula Carrick, b 1912 Harmon Co OK
m James Stringer, b 1910 Houston, Harris Co TX, d 1982 Austin
TX
Maybe somebody on the list will have old Fred down as a sibling of one of his
ancestors and they can point you in the right direction. That's the way these
lists work - just throw out what you know and see if anyone can match it (or
deny it <GRIN>).
Hope this helps.

It's me, Mark Kerrick that is. We spoke several times over the

you emails in the past
but your email address keeps bouncing back to me says you dont exist. I was
hoping if you know where
I can obtain a photo of Col. Harrison Kerrick for my files. I am still
writing
this book on kerrick
Karrick Carrick, it never ends ! I have pretty much closed the gaps on the
Karricks and Kerricks
from VA and MD in the 1700's and worked up to the ILL and IN Kerricks and how
they shoot off to
other lines of the family in relation to my Kerricks of MD to KY. For
instance,
I have a few pages
on a Kerrick that moved South to TX, but never knew who their Ancestor was
until know. They are from
Nimrods Ancestors/family of VA. It's amazing to me how we branched out.
Take

I used to work with the President of HR of a major vacuum company
that is known worldwide. His last name is Bruce and he is descended from
the Bruces of Scotland "King Robert de Bruce". He traced or someone in
his family kept all records and passed them down to him, and it shows
the Bruce family or Clan is legit. I have studied Bruce for 5 years and
do not recall any bastardy in the family. He told me of a family story
that King Robert sat two sons down and told them he was going to toss a
coin in the air. And they each picked heads or tails. The one with heads
got his kingdom, and of course the one with tails got a very old bottle
of Scotch. The President of HR's family got the Scotch :) I do not know
if this tale is genuine? He said it is, but it does show that King
Robert had sons. He had more than two if I recall being told. But they
did not have any high social standing. This could account for the
mystery as to the lack of male line, or "lack of history recording them"
. If that makes sense.

Paula -
Well, I can shed some light on the last one. The oldest direct Carrick
ancestor I have knowledge of is John Carrick who died in Adams Co., PA in
1812. One of his sons was Samuel Czar Carrick. Samuel is a cousin to me, not
an ancestor. He was a Presbyterian minister and ultimately ended up in Knox
Co., TN where he founded Blount College. This school ultimately became the
University of TN. It seems to me that there are 2 Carrick halls, a North & a
South. His brothers and sisters went to Ohio, Kentucky and other points
throughout Appalachia. John Carrick's will is on my web site.
By the time of the Civil War, most of my direct Carrick line were in Sparta,
White Co., TN, so they mostly fought on the Southern side. Those who went to
Ohio probably fought on the Union side. After the war the county economy was
in ruins, so my family mostly migrated to Harmon Co., OK where they sought a
fresh start.
Just before the Civil war, the Mason-Dixon line was declared to be the
boundary between PA & MD. Up until that time, the area that John Carrick was
living in was considered to be a part of MD. We had spent lots of time
looking
in PA records for traces of John. When we found this out, we started looking
in Frederick Co., MD, right across the border. We have found 2 other Carrick
men there, a James & a Samuel. (See above para., but not the same guy.) We
are
assuming they are relatives of our John, likely brothers.
I am aware of Carrick High School. What is now a district of the town of
Pittsburgh used to be a village, I think, but I have not been able to find
out
much else about it.
The present Earl of Carrick is Prince Charles, so you can claim you are
related to him until proven otherwise. <GRIN>
On my web page (listed at the end of this email) there are lots of links to
things named Carrick - people, places, things. I haven't checked lately to
see
which are still valid & which aren't. Knock yourself out.
Good luck. Keep those questions coming. Send your family tree to the list. We
are all looking for hints and clues. We might see something in the middle of
your list!

Cousin Gil

Hi Folks,
I'm looking for the ancestry of Edward CARRICK born 1699 in Lanercost
Cumberland England. He married Ann (surname unknown) and had Mary born
1726, Thomas born 1728 and Jane born 1730 in Lanercost Cumberland England.
Edward died in 1730 in Lanercost Cumberland England. I believe Edward's
parents were Thomas CARRICK born 1672 Brampton Cumberland England and
Margaret ELWOOD. Thomas and Margaret had 5 children born in Lanercost
Cumberland England.
Any help on these folks would be greatly appreciated,
Marta Metcalf
