Message Board Post:
I am researching the Gurganus family and have found a number of connections with
Carraways.
First, in NC, I have James Franklin Carraway (1795-1880) m. Elizabeth Ann Gurganus, and
their 1850 and 1860 Martin Co NC census list James and Eli Gurganus, but I'm not sure
how they're related. At least one of their children Isaac migrated to Georgetown SC.
I have not been able to find much more on other children.
Second, I have a James F. Carraway b.1827 in NC, m. Ann Britton. In their 1880 census
(Williamsburg Co SC) they include Julius A. Gurganus and J.E. Gurganus, but I'm not
sure how either of them are related. Julius is still found in the 1900 and 1910 censuses
for Williamsburg Co SC.
So my guess (and purely a guess) is that the James Carraway is the father of the second
James? Does anyone have any more details? Do you know anything about the relationship of
Julius and J.E. to James b.1827?
