Dear friends and family:
While in Florida, a while ago, I was surprised to find a "Carr Lake" north of
Tallahassee, Florida. There was a plantation on the SE corner of the Lake
Owned by a William Carr sometime in the 1860s. Maybe this will help someone.
I have no proof of his ownership or existence though, but Carr Lake is near
and sometimes connected to Lake Jackson. Named for General Andrew Jackson,
In 1818 Jackson and his troops Killed 300 enemy Indians, 300 head of cattle
were taken, and 300 acres of Corn were burned. I thought there may be a
connection to the Thomas Carr who commanded a troop of friendly Creek Indians
in the Seminole War of 1818. Story from book on Florida Place names, Allen
Morris, no year? (per phone call to Library in Tallahassee.
There was an aid to General Jackson who later built a plantation there. His
name is Richard Keith Call and was there from 1820s-1870s. So some of the
other troops may have done the same?? Do you know anything about this??
Just a story no docs.
Jim
Anyone know?? Maybe this is your Carr?
