Hi Pat,
It has been a while but we have had contact before. I am still trying
to find parents for my great grandmother Agnes CARR. b. 26 Apr 1861
probably in Redford Twp. Michigan. I went rummaging through a box that
belonged to my grandmother and came across a funeral announcement for
Orr Elkany CARR b. 16, December 16, 1859, in Redford, Michigan.
Married 7 Mar 1883 to Maria Jane Kirkland of Iosco Twp., Livingston
County. Died Saturday evening, September 11, 1937, At the old Carr home,
now owned and occupied by his son Robin and family.
He leaves to mourn their loss, two sons and their families, Roswell G.
of East Lansing, Robin K. at home; and many other relatives, friends and
neighbors. One son, Ralph, preceded him in death by thirteen months, and
Mrs. Carr by six years and seven months.
My Grandfather was Joseph Orr Gray, his mother was Agnes CARR Gray. I
am certain that Orr Elkany is Agnes's brother. Have you ever heard any of
these names? Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Seems that someone was looking for Carrs in Ontario recently. Anyway,
these
notes from The Carr Book, by Arthur A Carr, might jog some
interesting
discussion. I'd be interested in comments, additions, corrections.
CALEB CARR
dob 11 Nov 1762 probably in West Greenwich, RI
dod 18 Jul 1839 Michigan
"Little of this Carr is known for certain. Family tradition says that he
was
a preacher. One of his sons was born in New York State. He and his
family
are thought to have lived for many years in the Province of Ontario. Two of
his sons went over into Michigan as that country was being opened to
settlement. He is thought to have had other children because the sons often
went into Canada to visit relatives. In 1836, three years before his death,
he came to Michigan to live with his sons there. He is buried in the Novi,
MI Cemetery some twenty miles from Detroit in the same plot with his son,
Isaac, and the wife and daughter of Isaac. He is said to have fought in two
wars but was rather young to ahve been active in the Revolution."

"Isaac Carr came into Michigan at an early date from nearby Canada where his
parents seem to have lived for some years. He probably lived near Novi, MI,
as he is buried there as is his father, his wife and daughter. He built and
operated taverns at [Redford, MI; Farmington, MI; and Novi, MI] on the
famous
Grand River road."

"It is not known where this Caleb lived prior to 1837 but in that year he
came as one of the first settlers of Williamston, MI, where he lived the
remainder of his years. He is buried at Williamston as is his son, Charley.
Beside the grave of Charley is one of Harriet Carr (b 1792 - d 1853). Her
tombstone states that she was born in Cattaraugus Co, NY. Her relationship
to the family is not known."
"Three children were born to Caleb and Catherine. All are thought to have
married, but except for the husband of the daughter being named Williams no
data is at hand."
