Pat ,
I went to the East Greenwich Free Library today to make copies from Rhode Island Vital
Records that are in a
book form and contains information about South County (we call it South County, but it
really is Washington
County). The names are listed in alphabetical order. Since I was doing research there
anyway I offered and you
accepted me to make copies of the Carr family and send them to you. I have no affiliation
with the Carr name
other than I am trying to find information about Lewis Carr who was Nancy Hick's first
husband. I am a
descendant of Nancy Hicks and her second husband Henry Curry.
Five minutes before closing time I notice a small little book between two larger books
titled "House of Carr"
which looked old.
I copied only one page and when I got home and read it I found it very interesting and
wanted to share with
all. This is an excerpt of page 7 (the one that I copied).
at Plymouth, they ever found their way to their aunt and uncle, we shall never know. That
they arrived safely,
however is shown by the following entry in their Aunt Susan's diary:
"In 1635, Robert and Caleb Carr, husband's brother Benjamin Carr's two sons,
were sent over from London to
live with their Uncle William, my husband. We had fine times hunting with the Indians,
they were very friendly
to us. Our bedding and clothing were nearly all skin and furs like the Indians."
"In 1636, Capt. Roger Williams, who had abandoned the sea, moved from Salem, bringing
with him a colony of
Friends, and settled with us, and set up a school, free for all, young and old."
If you want me to copy more of this book let me know. I think (don't hold me to this)
there was a small
listing of a few descendants.
Hope you enjoyed it.
