Hello, Phyllis;
Your message is what most of us list-managers enjoy and
you have made me so glad that I sent out the message about $24
donations. Actually, there is a $12 level also, ALL STRICKLY
VOLUNTEER. Maybe the list-owner who is asking for money to be
sent to HIM personally has done us a favor by bringing this to
the forefront and allowing us to get this cleared up.
Just in case anyone missed this point, it does not cost
anything to join ROOTSWEB. All you have to do is to subscribe!!!!
Now, to get to your question about posting.
Netiquette would have you be as specific and as brief as
possible:

Notice how it is strictly parents & children & sticks to
NAME, BIRTH OR MARRIAGE OR DEATH DATA.
The entire idea is that this information is enough to
enable someone to make a connection with you. Any more information
is useless because it causes a glut in the mind. It is simply too
much to handle efficiently.
Also, notice the subject line. Someone who was skimming
just subject lines can quickly see if the body of the message
might have more information for them. You might even list the
wife here as:
Subject:DUNCAN, George W. b. ca. 1818, KY m. Elizabeth MOUNTS
bef. 1840
Now, I prefer to run my lists without putting any kind
of requirements to the persons who subscribe except for NO ATTACHMENTS
SENT TO THE LIST & please send us your good answers. Before I got
edgeumicated, er, learned netiquette, I had a signature that filled
the entire screen and looks stupid, to me today, when I run across
it. Also, just in case someone decides to post a horribly long
message, I have limits set on every list that prevent overkill.
You know, if you cannot get your message into less than 21 pages
of data, you need to write a book.
So, to recap, you can send your message once a week, it
is better to stick to the above format but you can send it anyway
you like and if you have any further questions, by all means, feel
free to contact the list-manager.
Hopefully, I have answered your questions.
ENJOY!!!!!

Sandra,
I'll try and make this brief. I always enjoy reading the Blount list and
the last digest message was informitive. I too was concerned about the $24
fee for each list. I was about to unsubscribe to all but the few I could
affford at this time. So thank you for clearing that up and over the year
I will send a goodwill gift as I can afford it.
Next: How to use the List. I am not sure how to use the list or how often
I can request information or submit it to the list??!! Our Blount line
seems to be one of those 'lost' lines. But over the few years of research
(which I have discovered I have been doing wrong) I have gathered
information that may help others, I have not seen anything about what I
have on line. How can I put some feelers out, without overloading your
files , but yet get it out there...just like I feel sure someone is sitting
on our information...but it may not fit into their family line...Any help
would be appreciated on how to go about doing this...
Thanks Phyllis Blount
