New Amendment Clarifies Scope of Partnership; Both Companies Moving Quickly
to Bring New High Power TMF(TM) Rechargeable Battery Technology To Market
MILWAUKEE, and DENVER July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson Controls,
Inc. (NYSE: JCI) and BOLDER Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: BOLD),
developer and manufacturer of advanced, high power rechargeable batteries
based on its patented Thin Metal Film (TMF(TM)) technology, today announced a
new amendment to their strategic partnership.
The amendment, which further clarifies their partnership agreement
in the automotive engine starting and emergency jump-starting applications,
provides BOLDER with exclusive rights to the emergency jump-starting market
until July 1999. At that time, Johnson Controls will receive a non-exclusive
license to the emergency jump-starting market which will allow both companies
to sell to
that market. Johnson Controls maintains its exclusive license to sell to the
automotive engine starting market which has been specifically defined as
on-board engine starting, including emergency on-board starting.
Both companies are moving aggressively to bring battery products
based on TMF technology into the marketplace. "BOLDER's unique TMF
technology is a vital component in our new product development for several
key markets," said Keith Wandell, vice president and general manager of the
Johnson Controls battery segment.
"With TMF technology, we're packing a lot of surface area in a very
small space," said Michael Carr, vice president of national battery account
sales for Johnson Controls. "It's a phenomenal breakthrough that really
focuses on starting power." . . .
