My Carrs supposedly went to Manahawkin, NJ from Rhode Island in the
mid-1700s. My line of descent goes sort of like this:
First Generation:
1) James Carr b abt 1680 Newport, RI
son of Colonial Gov of RI Caleb Carr
Second Generation:
11) Caleb Carr b bef 1720 Newport, RI
moved to Manahawkin, NJ
Third Generation:
111) James Carr b abt 1735
married Phoebe
112) Joseph Carr b abt 1740
married Mary Moore
113) Catherine Carr b abt 1745
married Asa Cranmer
Fourth Generation
1111) James Carr b 12 Jul 1765 Mt Holly, NJ
married Esther Varnell {Hester Vernon?)
1121) Thomas Carr b abt 1765
married Letitia Nucles
Both fourth generation Carrs were prolific, so I don't include their progeny
here. I've collected tons of info on Burlington Co, NJ and the Quaker Carrs.
They are mostly descendants of Caleb and Sarah (Ridgeway) Carr. But I
haven't dug around in Ocean Co records. I'd appreciate any leads.
I'lll check my History of Little Egg Harbor, by Leah Blackman, and Blackman
Revisited, for leads on the Cranmer/Carr marriages mentioned.
